The beautiful planet Pern seemed a paradise to its new colonists—a return to an agrarian way of life—until unimaginable terror turned it into hell. The colony, cut off from Earth and lacking the resources to combat the menace, was doomed.

The colonists noticed that small, dragon-like lizards in their new world were joining the fight against Thread, breathing fire on it and teleporting to safety. If only the dragonets were big enough for a human to ride and intelligent enough to work as a team with a rider. With time running out and the colony's destruction imminent, they set their most talented geneticist to work to create the creatures Pern so desperately needed—dragons!

this audible should have been in the First Fall like it was in the book

Great book with a fine but slightly dated delivery

I hadn't read this book for years and decided to give it a whirl in honor of the passing of Coolio (big Pern fan!). While the quality of the book itself is there, the presentation felt dated. it was well performed, but production wise felt old.

Absolutely fantastic start to this series.

So many happy memories from when I was a teenager reading this book series for the first time. Loved listening to the start of the Dragons of Pern books all over again. Now on to the next one. Yyaahh.

I have always loved Anne McCaffrey, iam sad that this book ended way to soon.

Abridged, poor quality.

It did not state in the summary that this version is abridged. I've read the book, I know it is a good story, but it makes no sense in this recording. Adrienne Barbeau is not a good narrator, all the characters sound the same. The quality of the "remastered" recording is terrible.
