  • 66. Christopher Maher: Stress Management Is Not Enough (What To Do Instead)
    May 1 2024
WOOOOOO….Spiralers! This conversation WENT THERE. We were absolutely blown open by Christopher’s inspiring journey and awareness. His insights took us to places in both our bodies and minds that we had never gone before and we know you are going to be mind blown, too.In this conversation, Christopher Maher shares his healing journey starting from his stint as a US Navy SEAL to today as a wellness pioneer. Chris explains how his intense military training and childhood trauma led to physical and emotional imbalances in his body that became impossible to ignore.Through his exploration of traditional Chinese medicine and other healing modalities, Chris began to understand the importance of listening to the body's messages and addressing the root causes of stress (and the years long accumulation of it). He emphasizes the need to move away from Western medicine for himself and embrace a holistic approach to healing that would not only manage stressors but resolve them.Christopher introduces us to his coined term “strauma,” which is the accumulation of stress over time that becomes trauma. Many of us don’t think of trauma when we consider stress; we often think of horror-filled stories but “strauma” is a type of trauma every human in our society deals with. And while that is true, we are using daily stress management tools to address issues that began within the womb and even long before that with our ancestors. To address our lifetime accumulated stress, which lives in our bodies and therefore is experienced in our outer lives…Chris suggests that we must resolve stress at different levels of consciousness and use particular modalities to target the different bodies we all have: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. (Think of “body” in this sense as a collection of energy rather than your arms and legs!)In addition to learning about how stress over time can traumatize the body, you will also learn mind-tickling facts about resentment affects certain organs and determines our behaviour. So much of what Chris had to say truly blew our minds and we were able to connect back to a truth we already knew but on an even deeper level with respect to generational healing - That we are here to break the cycle and welcome a more conscious, loving world.Highlights:-The difference between stress management & stress resolutionHow stress not only impacts our bodies through daily stressors but can accumulate over time and turn into trauma, affecting every human on the planetResolving lifetime accumulated stress by addressing the different levels of consciousness and energetic bodies including the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodiesWhy we constantly project ourselves into the future and experience anxiety and racing thoughts-How emotions like resentment can be related to the receptive and blocked energies within our organ system- How our cells carry the resonance and data from our ancestors’ trauma that is passed down through generations (AND how healing our own cells directly and spontaneously impacts the generations behind and ahead of us)Timestamps:00:00 Life Story and Background as a Navy SEAL05:22 The Connection Between Trauma and Physical Pain07:04 Exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine09:17 The Body's Truth + the Need for Pain13:34 Recognizing the Limitations of Western Medicine15:27 The Turning Point18:39 Connecting Stress and Pain Resolution22:20 Moving from Stress Management to Stress Resolution23:54 Negative and Positive Stress Management Tools25:01 The Accumulation of Stress over Time27:21 The Four Bodies and Their Storage of Stress31:11 The Orientation of Each Body to Time34:00 The Impact of Ancestral Trauma38:18 Becoming Present Through All Four Bodies40:08 The Transmission of Stress to Future Generations42:14 The Impact of Healing on Future Generations50:21 The Toxicity of Resentment52:26 Resources for Healing–FINALLY! • 65. How Do I Know I’m Making The Right Decision?
    Apr 24 2024
Ah, decision fatigue…anxiety…worry…regret!!! All of these are commonly experienced emotions when it comes to finalizing a choice in our lives, whether that be to leave a relationship, change jobs, move cities, or even decide what to wear.Watch this episode on YouTube:https://youtu.be/9E48mFbhCZs?si=eCReZ-BPMzCeNOOaWe treat decisions as if they have the power to give us heaven or hell, and so we suspend ourselves in limbo racking our brains until we finally choose the “right” one, feeling guilt and doubt along the way. We ask our friends, parents, coworkers, and even our own PAST selves for advice…everyone except our own true selves in the present moment about what we truly want. But what if we told you making decisions didn’t have to feel that way? What if making a decision was an opportunity to question your socialization AND own your truth. In this radically honest conversation, we share some of the hardest decisions we have had to make, including Gina’s 3 year long dilemma to not have another baby along with the mental framework that we applied to help us experience more clarity, ease and trust in making those choices. We share candidly how hard it used to be to make decisions because of what we used to make certain decisions mean about ourselves:“If I do X, then they’ll judge me.”“If I don’t do X, then I’ll feel guilty.”Unfortunately, most of are trying to make decisions that will help us avoid emotional pain and if that’s our criteria for decision making…we might end up making choices that don’t serve us in the long run. By the end of this conversation, you will have a better understanding of what holds you back from making decisions and how to know if you’re making the “right” one for you.Highlights:-Having to make decisions is an opportunity to question what assumptions you’re making about the outcomes of such decision-Gina shares her journey around the ultimate decision to not have a second baby (this will be helpful even if you don’t have children or already have more than one!)-How to know if making the decision to leave a relationship or career will serve you-Sam and Gina both share the decision and thought process preceding their decision to leave their real estate careers and go ALL IN-Questioning the paradigm that creates a bind where we are trying to make decisions that will somehow be completely painless--FINALLY! • 64. Laurie Anne Briere: Pre-natal Consciousness (It starts before you're born!)
    Apr 17 2024
For the very first time on the Spiraling Higher Pod, we invited a guest to come back for round 2! Laurie Anne Briere, a practitioner, Transforming Touch therapist and breathwork facilitator who specializes in early trauma resolution returned to the pod to share her expertise on Neo-natal psychology and discuss the impact of early childhood experiences on our sense of safety and well-being as adults. We had a fascinating conversation around consciousness beginning before birth and how babies create memories, even if they are implicit and non-narrative.This heart-led conversation explores the importance of feeling safe in our bodies and how early trauma can disrupt the ability to find that felt sense of okay-ness. Together we expressed a deep compassion for how tough simple daily living can be for someone in a body that experienced early traumatic memories or experiences for which they will never have words or narratives for given that they occurred before our mental capacities developed.Whether you are aware of such possible early childhood or pre-natal experiences, Laurie Anne offers us hope that we can, at any time, learn how to become a secure base for our own selves and others and create a sense of safety again, no matter how unsafe or confusing we have felt in the past. After listening to this conversation, you will feel an unexpectedly enormous well of compassion for why you and others may react and cope in the often hurtful ways we do. And although there may have been early experiences out of our control that negatively impacted us, the power is in our hands to expand the capacity for discomfort and create a safe world within ourselves.Timestamps:03:33 Consciousness and Early Memories05:29 The Impact of Early Experiences on Safety21:58 Becoming a Secure Base22:26 The Need for Validation and Mirroring23:19 The Impact of Early Life Experiences on the Nervous System24:14 The Healing Power of Touch29:43 The Impact of Proprioception on Sense of Self33:00 The Transition from Living in the Mind to Living in the Heart34:07 The Difficulty of Daily Living with a Hijacked Nervous System36:09 The Impact of Early Attachment and the Role of Caregivers40:41 Processing Traumatic Birth Experiences45:18 Connecting with the Child Before Conception and During Pregnancy47:12 The Primal Fear of Not Being Liked51:10 Learning to Expand Capacity for Uncomfortable Sensations56:43 Navigating the Tension Between Doing and BeingAlso, if you haven’t already…make sure to listen to Laurie Anne on Episode 28: Finding Our True Selves By Healing Through The Nervous System. In that episode, we discussed:-Somatic Work-Understanding trauma responses and coping mechanisms-How to process emotions through the body (not the mind!)-Emotional regulation-Burnout!-Shifting from the sympathetic nervous system to a parasympathetic (rest & digest) stateDon't forget to share your biggest takeways and connect with us inside of the FREE Spiraling Higher Community where you can connect with other conscious besties and join us for a free connection call every month with people on the same frequency as you:--FINALLY!
