The fairy tales feature the stock characters of traditional tales—fairies both good and bad, and children undertaking precarious journeys. Often adopting paradox and nonsense as Lewis Carroll did, the stories invite adults to deploy the same open-mindedness as children. In MacDonald’s own words, "I do not write for children, but for the childlike, whether of five, or 50, or 75."

Helped me put my little sister to sleep

Im 17 and my job is to put my 5 year old little sister down for naps and for bed at night, and she would always ask me for a story. When I found this, I started to play it for my sister. It works so much better than my story telling! Now, my sister and me just sit together in bed and listen to it until she falls asleep and I leave. Good job Audible!

These fairytales hint at and echo deeper truths. The way they are written brings beautiful pictures to mind while listening to them. This book will be a favorite of my family from now on and I can’t wait to share these tales with future generations.
