Ned’s exhausted from his divorce, single parenting, and graduate school, so when his boss comes up with a plan to 'improve' work-life balance, Ned wants no part of it.

But Dr. Charles Henry Abbot, PhD has other ideas. Once Ned’s least favorite professor and now his infuriating colleague, Ned needs Abbot’s help editing his dissertation. With their newly limited work schedules, Abbot suggests the worst idea Ned’s ever heard: pretend to date. Convince their co-workers–and their boss–that they’re in a relationship and nailing this whole personal life thing . . . and each other.

It’s an awful idea, but, if it means a graduation cap, would faking a relationship be worth it, so Ned can finish his degree and move home to his daughter?

The Place Between is a steamy, m/m romance novel. If you like enemies to lovers, fake dating, and the thin line between bickering and flirting, then you’ll love this fast paced romance.

Buy The Place Between to watch Ned and Abbot’s fake relationship unfold as they stumble into the most real thing either of them has ever done.

I loved this book, so I was thrilled to see it in audio. The fake relationship has become a trope in rom-coms, but this was actually in the realm of believability. The slow-burn enemies to lovers was believable as well. I loved Ned and Henry. I loved Ned’s dad. I loved practically every side character in this book. I even loved the dog. I highly recommend the story.

In terms of audio, I was unfamiliar with Jeremy Frazier, but I have no complaints. He wasn’t the way I imagined Ned, but I got used to it and it felt right by the end. He did a good job of evoking all of Ned’s angst. His Henry was pretty much how I had it in my head, though.

I rarely rate 5 stars because there is always something that maybe could have been better, but this is one of the few that has earned that honor.

I am now hoping for Kit Oliver’s Cattle Stop next.

3rd person narrative ugh. The characters were just so flat and unrelatable. I wanted more. this one just missed the mark for me.

it was just... FINE

The story is told from Ned's point of view, and because Abbot is a guarded character, it takes time to understand Abbot's personality and motives. I think it would be really interesting to have the same story told from Abbot's point of view, much like Jay Bell did with "Something Like Summer" and "Something Like Winter." Just putting that idea out there! The banter between the two main characters--as well as the banter between Ned and his father--really pulled me into their relationships and captivated me. If I had one criticism of the audiobook, it's that the sound quality seems like it wasn't recorded optimally, so that when the narrator raises his voice, the sound quality distorts a little and has a grating tone. However, I got used to this after the first couple of chapters, and by then I was so engrossed with the story I didn't care anymore. Because this story is told in 3rd person limited voice present tense, I was immediately reminded of "Less" by Andrew Sean Greer, which was also a fantastic novel. I loved this story--it was sweet, funny, and engaging--I highly recommend it.

This wasn't a credible story. Rating and review should not be tied together. I don't appreciate being forced to write a review so I can submit my rate.

This author is new to me, but while I was looking for a new mm romance, decided to give it a try. now, I usually go for the spicy spicy books but this book was so cute and slow burn. if you are looking for a cute, light-hearted romance, give this a try. :)
