Frozen Head

By: Wondery
  • Summary

  • Hosted by Ash Kelley and Alaina Urquhart from the hit show Morbid.

When 90-year-old Laurence Pilgeram drops dead on the sidewalk outside his condo, you might think that’s the end of his story. But, really, it’s just the beginning. Because Laurence and others like him have signed up to be frozen and brought back to life in the future. And that belief will pull multiple generations of the Pilgeram family into a cryonics soap opera filled with dead pets, gold coins, grenades, fist fights, mysterious packages, family feuds, Hall of Fame baseball legends, and frozen heads — lots of frozen heads. From Wondery, comes a story about life, death, and what comes next.

  • Where to find Episodes 2-7 of Frozen Head
    Feb 1 2024

In the first episode of Frozen Head, you learned about two ordinary people whose deaths were anything but. No, this isn’t one of those true crime docs about a series of brutal murders. Rather, these two unassuming people were a part of a controversial movement – the right to be preserved cryogenically in the hopes of a second chance. After their deaths, decades apart, all hell broke loose between cryonicists and those who reject the supposed quack science of reanimation.

5 stars because I love them but…

Jumping over from Morbid, this podcast def seemed heavily scripted and I wasn’t prepared. I was waiting for the Ash & Alaina who make me cackle and pee myself. But this podcast seems like they were forced to leave their personalities at the door. It’s early on still so there’s not much to review but right off the bat it’s definitely different from Morbid. I shall stick around though, because Ash & Alaina are my FAVE podcasters. They could sit and record themselves reciting the alphabet and I’d listen contently. Love y’all!

I'm loving this

As a die hard Morbid fan, I enjoy the way Ash and Alaina tell the story. I'm falling in love with these mystery series type podcasts like This is Actually Happening; Dr Dante series etc. and it gives me something familiar to listen to in between my Morbid Mondays and Wednesdays and Listener Tale Fridays! I'm grateful for the hard work these ladies do to keep interesting content coming our way and Frozen Head does not disappoint.

Needs a better ending

I enjoyed this podcast . It is an interesting story about outliers who invest their lives in the promise of cryogenics. Offers a layman’s overview of the science and philosophy behind it and packages it in compelling stories of individual people. Felt like the conclusion was abrupt — would’ve liked to have heard about where the company is now .

Too much repetition

I understand the need for commercials but this is excessive. After each break, they reintroduce the series. I’m about 20 minutes in and have heard it at least 3 times. Sounds like an interesting story , but I won’t finish it.

Wanted Alaina & Ash, got Ashley Flowers & Brit 2.0

This is so disappointing. It's overly scripted, and they have basically wiped out Ash's personality. Alaina didn't even seem to get to offer her usual insightful commentary. I identify with Alaina because books, Buffy, and science, but I need that Ash counterbalance. You can't script pop culture genius. Just let her run with it, this is one of her many gifts that she generously shares with the world. It hurts my heart to see Ash's personality blanked out like this. She has so much to give, y'all.
