Absolutely drawn in from the get-go!

Not only does the story reach out and grab you from moment one - the show is well produced and Rachel and Greg - plus Joe, who brought the story to their notice, are likeable and engaging, An absolute must-listen for fans of true crime!

Interesting and important story but problematic

The story of Fr. Joe's murder is riveting and hopefully this pod has helped find justice. However, the investigative, production and script quality is really low for a Wondery production.

The hosts reflect far too much on their own experience here (not unusual in true crime podcasting but really annoying). Their narration (the script) is full of cringe-worthy cliches and is at times so bad I would have to fast forward (ex: "he gave me a smarmy sinister vibe" 🤦‍♀️). The hosts are just young and need more experience. They could use a good writer and editor.

The hosts also lied in order to set up an interview with a Bishop. Maybe this is ok in journalism, I found it really unethical and was again put off by the hosts and their "investigation".

The series is also too long with A LOT of needless reflection and irrelevant information. A good edit, a quality writer would have made this a stellar pod. Clearly the hosts have good rapport with the family and others invested in the case. Interviews with those individuals are the strength of the podcast. There are moments where this is great (a montage of recorded phone messages to the victim - so moving). It's just not consistent.

Overall, I would love to see this remade by the hosts now that I'm sure they have more experience. The case, the interviews, the life and stories of the victim are all there. There are gems. But you just need patience to find them.
