I've got a pretty great life, if I do say so myself. I made a fortune when I sold my tech start-up, and I've spent the years since partying, drinking, and inviting a parade of women into my bed.

I should be happy, but I feel an annoying lack of fulfillment, and there's no way I'm going back to the work I did before.

At a friend's party, I meet Marissa. We have hot sex against the door and agree to spend the weekend together. Just one weekend. I never expect to see her again.

Except now she's pregnant with my baby . . . and I think this is the solution to all my problems. This is what will bring meaning to my life. I'm going to be a devoted father and husband.

Marissa—whose last name I still don't know—wants me to be involved, though she rejects my marriage proposal. But before the baby arrives, I'm going to prove to her that I can be something other than a playboy.

And the rare times I set my mind to something, I don't fail . . .

Contains mature themes.

FMC Marissa, 36, mechanical engineer, Chinese Canadian.

MMC Vince, 33, sold his tech startup for 200M, retired. Cinnamon Rollish. Chinese Canadian.

Technically 4/5 steam, but really only 2 sex scenes. Disappointing compared to The Professor Next Door also by Lau.

Pregnant most of the book; not as good as other books I’ve listened to. I appreciate that A) unplanned pregnancy was a result of condom failure and B) FMC had a history of one abortion when she was in college. Bumping up from 3 to 4 stars because these were thoughtfully written.

Audiobook: New voice actors to me, did fine.

Diversity: As with Prof Next Door, I appreciate that both MCs are in their 30s and Canadian born Chinese, like Lau.

Verdict: I won’t be buying my own copy after listening to it on Audible Plus.

Spice starts out with a bang, fizzles out.

The audio was great. But the story all together wasn't the best. the story could have used a little bit more pizzazz.

great audio story was all right

Jackie Lau is a delight and one of my favorite authors. Marissa and Vince have a spicy two night stand and then don’t expect to see each other again. When Marissa realizes she’s pregnant she tells Vince, hoping he’ll want to be the fun dad for the baby. He’s rich, but she makes good money. She wants her child to have the family she lacked. Vince is delighted and ready to settle down immediately. Marissa, not so much. This is lovely and fun with a moderate to high heat. Be warned, the food descriptions will make you wish you lived in Toronto.

I love this surprise pregnancy romance

I had to force myself to continue listening, this story ugh! The woman drags, the man boring.

Underwhelming

The narrator(s) sounded like they were struggling to read. It was so stiff. The FMC made this whole story hard to stomach I barely made it through the entire story. FMC and her mom seemed to have some moral high ground only they could see

Narration and FMC were difficult
