In this episode, we talk to Sue Klebold about how she would give her own life to stop her son Dylan's mass shooting at Columbine High School. Sue reveals how Dylan had no mental illness diagnosis, and no one knew about the dark depression he wrote in personal journals. Eventually, his suicidal thoughts turned homicidal, and his friendship with fellow shooter Eric Harris developed into extreme rage amongst the two which led to that unforgettable tragedy in 1999. We discuss how she has spent the last fifteen years excavating every detail of her family life and trying to understand the crucial intersection between mental health problems and violence, what she feels she missed in Dylan's mental state, the idea of forgiveness, and the urgent need to change how society responds to psychological disorders in order to prevent future tragedies.
