Great dialog

Enjoyed relaxed dialog, real world situations. Characters are very well developed as the books move forward

Wonderful mystery

Really enjoyed our favorite detective as he navigates the deadly mystery while regaining his family. It was good to see this side of him. Hope Alice and their son will be in more of the detective series and that we see their love and bond grow stronger.

Poor Mr. Reid

I do like his books and I am enjoying the series overall. But I find it very sad that the author seems never to have had a good relationship with a woman, because he can't write a likable female character. Alice is constantly remonstrative toward Bone, her tone is like a teacher who's always disappointed in her students. Why Bone wants to be with her is unfathomable. They don't discuss anything they deeply and warmly connect over—which leads me to believe the author hasn't ever had an equitable, warm, reciprocal relationship with a woman.

The most positive female character is Bone's lesbian colleague—but even she isn't very well developed as a character.

Baxter, another female colleague, is even more two dimensional. Almost but not quite Velma from Scooby Do.

I'll continue on to see whether this changes—so much potential in his work.

Too similar

I’ve listened to 4 of these and now I’m done, They all have a bit of a predictable flow. The graphic deaths are also hard to take. Lastly there’s always someone angry, and it seems a bit forced.
