This special box set edition of The Borrowed World Series contains the full text of books 1-3 of the best-selling series: The Borrowed World, Ashes Of The Unspeakable, and Legion Of Despair. This series has garnered tens of thousands of 4 and 5 star reviews.

If society fell apart, could your family survive? Jim Powell thought he was ready. He was a regular guy who travelled a lot for work and hated every second he was away from his young family. But when ISIS operatives unleashed a coordinated attack on America’s infrastructure, his entire world shattered. The electrical grid collapsed, communication networks were damaged, critical bridges and dams were destroyed, and major fuel refineries have gone up in massive fiery clouds.

Now, with an Executive Order halting fuel sales to the public, Jim Powell finds himself in a terrifying predicament. He's trapped hundreds of miles away from his family, and with thousands of stranded travelers and scarce law enforcement across the country, the miles between Jim and his family become a brutal gauntlet where the rules of a civilized society no longer apply.

Jim is a prepper with years of planning under his belt, but as he puts his preparations to the test, he soon finds that training for a societal collapse is very different from actually experiencing one. If Jim wants to make it back to his family in one piece, he'll need to find the strength and brutality to meet this new, dangerous world head-on—even if it means rising to unimaginable levels of violence.

Downloaded over 100,000 times, The Borrowed World is a series that you'll find yourself listening to more than once.

Addictive....never thought I would be listening to a book in this genre, but very glad this box set came up! The narrator is really good and the story kept me listening when I should have been sleeping. No prepper so can't say if the book is accurate as one complained, but the story keeps you listening and that is all I need. The story develops naturally and gives enough detail that you feel anxious for the characters as they try to make it home after terrorists attack the grid and other weakened infrastructures, which is very believable. I have no idea if possible, but as a weekly traveler for work I will be making my own "get home" or "bug out" bag for my car, which has me shaking my head while now believing preparedness is not nutzoid crazy either!! You won't be dissapointed...highly recommend!

Very good!

I'm not normally a fan of SHTF fiction. I read The Stand and Alas Babylon in college (yes, voluntarily) and loved them both but went on to read The Beach, which convinced me that the genre was not for me. However, recently The Borrowed World series was recommended to me by several people who share a similar taste in books as me, so I decided to give it a try.

Thanks to this series I am now not only hooked on this author but also the genre in general. I've since gone on to read and listen to the rest of Horton's books and, when I ran out of those, I moved on to many other great series in the genre. Like I said, I'm hooked!

However, The Borrowed World series is my favorite out of them all and is one that I will return to again and again. The premise is different from most of the genre. Instead of an EMF blast or deadly virus or catastrophic natural disaster, we have a highly plausible coordinated terrorist attack on our power grid and oil refineries. The resulting blackout and fuel shortages mean no lights, no heat, no ac, no microwaves or electric stoves, no functioning life saving machines at the hospital. And no fuel for the trucks that deliver food from the factories, farmers, and warehouses to the grocery stores for our convenience. The result is a rapid collapse into a lawless society in which friends turn on each other for food and medicine and the violent and depraved among us no longer have a reason to keep their impulses in check.

The main character, Jim, is awesome. He's no-nonsense but not a hard ass. He wants to help people but not if they're going to ignore his instructions and put themselves and others in danger. He doesn't have time to deal with entitled behavior and if you march off in a huff, you're on your own.

The exception to that are a few of the coworkers that were stranded along with him when the lights went out, the ones that aren't afraid to do what is necessary to defend themselves and their friends and are willing to put in the hard work necessary to survive. Together, they go through hell and back to get home to their families and the shared experience results in lifelong friendships. These people, their families, Jim's family, and a few others they meet along the way become strong supporting characters in this series and I quickly became invested in all of them. These are people that I'd loved to have as friends in real life.

I believe that this is the first time I've listened to a book narrated by Kevin Pierce and I felt that he did a fantastic job. I look forward to listening to more of his work.

Will Listen Again!

Love the story

The narrator does a good job but I feel like his voice makes the MC sound older than he was. Some cursing but not in every sentence like many books in the Prepper genre. Good enough that I might reread them someday!

Good read
