Demetri messed up in the military and now must serve as a miner on Earth's ally planet Secren. This is the last place he wants to be. Earth men are considered small and cute to the violent Secren men. Demetri already ran a mine on the ice world Donovan. This gives him enough notoriety for mine overlord Malstrum to take an interest in him.

It seems cut and dry that he's going to rebuff Malstrum and make it on his own, but Secren is a brutal world. The male population are all slave miners desperate to reach their quotas. As an Earthling Demetri is an easy mark to get robbed or killed.

Giving in to Malstrum is the only way Demetri can survive. The charismatic mine overlord decides to make it easy for him.

Fantastic Voice Acting

It's hard to believe that ONE person created all of these voices and interactions between characters! I have to imagine the audio took a good amount of editing to piece together.

The store is fairly well written with decent pacing for being a rather short story. The fluffy parts are sweet, the darker parts hurt in just the right way; it was an emotional roller-coaster and I enjoyed it!

I'm sure some people would just be interested in the nsfw portions of the story, but at least for me, I'll have no interest if the story isn't good.

To double down on that, I can't for the life of my enjoy an audio book if I can't enjoy the voice actor. This reading had a great energy, really becoming each of the characters and playing them off of each other perfectly.

It never felt flat, or rushed, or messy. Perfect and insanely enjoyable to listen too, even if you cut out the nsfw parts out entirely. (Those were lovely too though of course... A++ wow)

Beyond worth the money spent!

The story definitely has some heavier tones, so keep that in mind. It's pretty graphic at times, though that's somewhat expected early on. Before the main character even ventures into the main starting setting of the story, they explain rather quickly how harsh the place can be. You're given fairly ample warning, but just in case, heed this warning.

(And if you play the steam game that was made, it's based off this book but definitely different, so keep that in mind. They read completely differently, in my opinion. The game has some good moments, but the book is way better, and this audio reading is my absolute fav.)
