Sierra Cartwright writes well but this plot is nonsense. Of course it's a romance so she is allowed absurd, one-dimensional characters with over-the-top personality traits. The plot is consistently silly, from the over-arching premise that brings Rafe and Hope together to the instant attraction that the two feel for each other. Hope, a successful career woman, has an immediate attraction to an unyielding, demanding executive. The attraction is so strong that by their second meeting she is
stripping for him at her office, neglecting her business, allowing Rafe to humiliate and subjugate her, tie her up, beat her and engage in behaviours that are completely outside her norm. Rafe, after just one meeting has decided that Hope is the woman that he needs. Within days he proposes to her, explains she will need to provide him with children and she would be his 7-24 submissive, subject to his whims including greeting him naked, on her knees, with her a gag in her mouth when he returns home from work. In return he promises he would be faithful, although playing at sex clubs with other women doesn't count. How could any intelligent, independent woman refuse an offer like that? As I said, it's a romance, it doesn't have to make sense.

It would have been nice if Hope could have held out a bit longer, perhaps she could have held on to some semblance of self respect, some aspect of self determination, perhaps pushed back against Rafe once, but I guess the orgasms were just that good. If her experiences with Rafe are any indication she is condemned to never enjoying a meal, a social event or a relaxing evening without having to provide Rafe with a "sustaining" dose of her suffering. You know: wearing nipple clamps. an anal plug or enduring public humiliation.

Suspend disbelief, set aside any pretence of equality, ignore the author's bleating about power dynamics in a BDSM relationship and let story the flow by.

The narrators did a good job with what they were working with.

Omniscient Dom weak career woman, insta-lust, yuck
