Midnight Local

  • Summary

  • When you spend all day in a studio shooting a YouTube series about drinking, things can run off the rails in a hurry, and carefully managing that chaos is vital if you’re going to make a show like How to Drink, and that’s what Greg & Meredith have done for years. Here at Midnight Local we give into that chaos and let the rails be damned. These are the conversations that make you pause the movie because it just can't wait. Things like how the Hays Code destroyed cinema from 1934 - 1968, why David Lindelof should never be able to hold a pen again, and the fact that Joss Whedon doesn't live up to the morality of his own characters and also has tiny teeth. Midnight Local is a place to get weird about movies and shows and the rest and go beyond the who, what and where.

  • Dark City, the best film of 1998?
    Sep 18 2023
Dark City is a highly critically acclaimed film from 1998, Roger Ebert went as far as to call it the best film of that year. The movie is often compared to the Matrix and remembered fondly by both Greg and Meredith. We aren't so sure that it still holds up but we couldn't stop bringing it up when we discussed The Matrix a few weeks ago and thought it was worth revisiting so we could tell you all about it. • Aliens, this time it's war
    Sep 11 2023
We couldn't talk about Alien without talking about it's arguably superior sequel, Aliens. James Cameron redefines the franchise into an action/adventure packed blockbuster where we see our main characters really fight back against the alien threat. The mother/daughter love story Cameron builds between Ripley and Newt adds a layer of humanity to this movie that everyone can connect with.  More about the show: Twitch: http://bit.ly/2VsOi3d Twitter: http://bit.ly/H2DTwit Instagram: http://bit.ly/H2dIG Watch the episodes on our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@MidnightLocal Learn more about your ad choices. • Alien, is directing a job for jerks?
    Sep 4 2023
In this episode we talk about the best space thriller of all time. This is the second Ridley Scott film we have discussed - go back and check out our episode on Blade Runner - so we spend some time talking about other directors who have made their mark and if the position of the director has changed. Also we discuss how Dan O'Bannon creates the most terrifying creatures of all time! Fun for movie lovers

I started watching this because I loved Greg and Merideth's tangents on Greg's YouTube channel, How to Drink. It doesn't disappoint. Give it a shot.

If you like HTD you will like this podcast

Gregg and Meredith are quite the dynamic duo. Gregg is the crusty cynic and Meredith, a good foil Gregg, shines silver linings on Greg's figurative dark cloud.

I like their reviews, stories, and complete side tangents they share in the podcast. In HTD they make the show worthwhile by not just showing you how to make a drink, but giving interesting facts, stories, and rumors surrounding the drink. I feel in Midnight Local they bring that same model they share with drink to movies and other pop culture topics. I highly recommend the podcast.
