Kendal and Kevin do not have your normal brother and sister bond. With the telepathy between the two, you'd think they were twins. When "it" says "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity", they definitely had Kevin in mind.

Terrika Bell’s Skinner is a deeply emotional and haunting story that grips the reader from the very first page. The narrative follows young Kendall, a courageous and resilient girl whose life is marked by tragedy and survival. From the start, the story evokes heartbreak as the only person who truly loved her is taken from her—an act that is made even more devastating because it happens by her own hands.

The bond between Kendall and her brother Kevin is initially a source of warmth and comfort, offering a fleeting sense of safety when she faces her first attack. This makes his absence during her second attack all the more disheartening. Kendall’s character is portrayed with admirable strength and determination, bravely enduring horrors that no child—or human—should ever face. Yet, amidst the darkness, the story finds glimpses of hope. When Kendall is discovered by another survivor, the reader is reminded that there are still good and compassionate people in the world. The angelic woman who takes Kendall in offers her a semblance of love and comfort until the end of her days.

The plot builds tension skillfully, especially when Kendall encounters a little boy in a store—a moment that foreshadows further trouble. This suspense kept me eager to see how Kendall’s harrowing journey would resolve.

Overall, Skinner is a raw and moving tale of survival, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit. It’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming, leaving a lasting impact long after the final page is read.

I eagerly anticipate seeing this adaptation in live-action. While I would love to give it a five-star rating, the narrator’s performance fell short of expectations.
