If China seems unstoppable, so too does its leader Xi Jinping. As general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and president of China, he commands over 1.4 billion people, in a vast country that spans the prosperous megacities of Beijing and Shanghai and desperately poor rural regions where families still struggle with malnutrition.

Today, Xi Jinping faces a series of monumental challenges that would make other global leaders tremble: a trade war with the USA, political unrest in Hong Kong, accusations of genocide in Xinjiang, stuttering economic growth, and a devastating global pandemic that originated inside China.

But who is Xi Jinping and what does he really want? To rejuvenate China and bring economic prosperity to all its people? To challenge American supremacy and turn China into the world's dominant power? Avoiding both sycophantic flattery and outright condemnation, this new biography by Stefan Aust and Adrian Geiges gets inside the head of one of the world's most mysterious leaders. Skillfully unraveling the hidden story of Xi Jinping's life and career, from his early childhood to his rise to the pinnacles of the Party and the State, they flesh out his views and uncover how he became the most powerful man in the world.

Really little insight on Xi… more of a China love note than insightful. I guess a little critical reporting buried in the middle so not to anger China? It’s supposed to be about the leader (dictator now) of China not the country. It would be like a book about Trump that goes on and on about Florida. Its ok though and books like this need to be read if only because there isnt any other information about the guy

An honest attempt at being neutral to describe Xi mostly succeeds. Be ready for plenty of US bashing tho. That said, it seems Xi’s true (maybe) desire for a better world, often conflicts with his need for Chinese glory. He’s more caring, ruthless, misguided, cowardice, and brilliant than I thought. An informative book of a very hard working boy/man who’s belief in (Red) party first can only go so far.

Xi’s come undone

An interesting look at modern China but definitely not a biography of Xi Jinping. It had some interesting observations but was still filled with the typical western liberal democracy biases.

Definitely NOT Biography

Interesting details regarding the life of Xi Jinping and his regime. I would like to further research some of the claims.

Informative

I bought this book to learn about Xi Jinping. Instead it's a propaganda piece--telling the reader that China gets everything right and the West gets it all wrong--from COVID, to economies, to government system...you'll own nothing and like it!

This is a country that's only Social Media communication is WeChat. That's it. Why no LINE, VIBER, SKYPE, etc. I don't think you need to wonder why.

The author is the definition of a sycophant.

I hoped for a good book. I got a POS.

Pure Propaganda! Truly a horror show book.
