  • 52. Beyond the Budget - The Secret to Having Better Money Conversations With Your Spouse
    Apr 23 2024
For the first time EVER in Honest Women History, we have a topic SO juicy and SO loaded we had to break it into two episodes! This is the second of two episodes all about how to handle money better in your marriage, so go back to last week's episode if you haven't heard it yet (we'll wait!). Today we get honest about: The four money scripts: money avoidance, money worship, money status, and money vigilance. The importance of understanding and aligning spending behaviors with personal values. Financial infidelity. How differences in spending habits can lead to misunderstandings and resentment between partners. How open and regular communication about finances is crucial for a healthy relationship. How understanding each other's upbringing and attitudes towards money can help create empathy and connection. How addressing fears and defining financial security can lead to a better understanding of each other's financial goals and priorities. How having a budget and reviewing it regularly can help couples stay on top of their finances and avoid unnecessary stress. Plus, Andrea and Jessica are WAY more chill about the money topic than last week (see??? Having an honest conversation does wonders for money stress!); Andrea makes a big announcement; and Jess makes a VERY ambiguous sound effect. Did somebody say motor boating?? Like this episode? Check out these: 49. This One Skill Can Make or Break Your Relationships (April 2, 2024) - in which we discuss how to really apologize... just in case. 24. How to be a Better Communicator (October 4, 2023) - because learning to communicate better can only serve you well when you have to talk about tricky topics like money. • 51. START HERE if You Want to Talk About Money in Marriage (Without Fighting!)
    Apr 16 2024
Are we the only ones who love having money, but absolutely HATE talking about it with our partners? Like, sweaty palms, fight or flight, fears of domestic-World-War-3 hate it? We didn't think so! That's why we're getting honest about how money conversations in our marriages are about SO MUCH MORE than dollars and cents. Join us as we discuss: A few reasons we're all so freaking weird about talking about money. Why money conversations can be stressful and challenging in relationships. Why it's totally common to avoid conversations about money. How money disagreements can lead a couple to divorce. How childhood experiences and societal messages shape our relationship with (and thus our behaviors around) money. Why understanding our own money history is critically important for better money conversations. How having open and curious conversations with our partners can lead to real connection - even when the money conversation is over. And a nudge for you, dear listener, to continue the dialogue and seek real connection through honest conversations about money in your own home... cause you deserve to feel less stressed and more connected in your marriage! Even something as simple and open-ended as "What money lessons did you learn growing up?" could start a conversation that gives insight and leads to connection. Plus, Jess and Andrea reveal how money is currently being handled in their own houses (spoiler alert: one of us is actively involved and one of us currently has the money involvement of a 1950's housewife... can you guess who is who?); Jess shares some wisdom from the 90's about money (Mo Money Mo Problems); and Andrea reveals that not even earning a CPA can release you from the deeper meaning that money takes in your life, if you haven't done the work of reflection and conversation. Like this episode? Check out these: 23. Unpacking Childhood Labels (September 27, 2023) - another episode that helps you understand the impact your early life has on you today. Get ready for some insight! 27. Hobbies! They're Not Just for Husbands Anymore! (October 25, 2023) - because, when it comes to conflict in marriage, the way we use our time is second only to the way that we use our money. Connect with Us: WE WANT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS!!
