The Wedding Date meets The Birdcage in this laugh-out-loud gay romantic comedy from Andrew Grey

He’s here to slay…but will he stay?

James Petika is living the single gay life he always wanted. A police officer in Chicago, he has a good job, good friends—and he’s two thousand miles away from his family’s expectations. He also has a problem: he needs a date for his sister’s wedding in Missoula, Montana, but his family has no idea that he’s gay, and he’d like to keep it that way.

The solution? Daniel Bonafonte aka Lala Traviata, the queen of the Chicago drag scene. Lala is the real thing: she can sing, she can dance—and she can throw more shade than a solar eclipse. One drink and plenty of dishing later, Daniel agrees to help James out and be his incognito date to the wedding.

Daniel’s drag-diva skills are put to the test right away, with the bride’s ill-fitting wedding dress, a groom who’s a danger on the dance floor and more drama than auditions for a gay men's chorus. Faking this relationship—and ignoring the very real feelings developing between them—might just be the performance of their lives.

This book was such a breath of fresh air! It didn’t feel unreal, or like the characters were caricatures of drag queens or over the top family members. There was family drama, there was even a little mystery. SPOILERS AHEAD: the mother character definitely rang true for a lot of over involved, super religious, overbearing, mothers that I’ve witnessed. even the fact that the main character of James knew how his mother would react and wouldn’t stop trying once he came out of the closet. I loved Daniel and how he continued to save the day even after he was treated poorly. He’s just a good guy. Daniel and James together are a really great pair. Of course, Joel Leslie‘s narration is spot on. It always is. He’s a one click buy for me. I look forward to listening to more audiobooks by this author.

This is such a a great book. definitely a bit of a comedy of errors but also deals with some heavier topics in a way befitting their gravity. Absolutely Wonderful. if there was a way to give extra stars I would. The Narrator did a wonderful job and was absolutely perfect for this book. ❤️

I laughed. I cried. I squeeled.

It was SO easy to fall in love with Daniel and James. This story was so well-written and narrated. Of course, I adore Joel Leslie, he is one of my favorites. Actually, the fact that he was narrating is the reason I used my credit to purchase this book. And much to my surprise, I LOVED it.
Now I hope we get another story with James and Daniel’s wedding.

I loved the story of James and Daniel. Crazy families. Friends and drag queens. What ever could go wrong with a wedding and how Daniel saved the day. How fast the fell in love, when you know you know. Great read.

So cute
