Kelsey dreams of a life filled with creativity.
She's about to stumble into far more than she imagined...

Kelsey Willoughby doesn’t have time to pursue her dream of writing a novel. Imagination doesn’t pay the bills, and she’s busy saving her beautiful bookshop from online competition, hotel developers, and the sneaking suspicion that nobody reads anymore.

Not to mention all those voices telling her she doesn’t have talent.

But then the vacant lot of weeds next door starts to shimmer.

When Kelsey stumbles into a luminous nighttime garden party, larger than the vacant lot that holds it and filled with enigmatic guests, she suspects they hold the key to saving the bookshop, and perhaps even to her own mysterious origins.

But answers aren’t forthcoming, not until Kelsey is willing to confront her past, step into her potential, and push deeper into the unknown edges of the garden, where an unexpected journey takes her into a world of dangerous revelation.

The beginning hooked me. The middle got repetitive and I almost gave up but I’m so glad I didn’t. It inspired me to get back to my small creative pursuits. The end was a wonderful closure of her personal creative journey. The more basic problems were frustratingly not solved until the very very end. The true point of the book though is the journey of the artist and the courage it takes to risk rejection of one’s true self. The open heart it takes to give so many pieces of your self away. Then how to create no matter the circumstances.
The narrator took some getting use to but I did.

Despite technical issues, the writing is lovely, but perhaps
the author should’ve chosen another to narrate. There’s some thing missing in the telling of the story.

Don’t love the narration

Higley weaves worlds seamlessly, building suspense as she blurs the lines of reality and intermingles philosophy on creativity and life. I thoroughly enjoyed this encouraging tale and its satisfying resolution. I also experienced audio glitches with the ends of the first two chapters cutting off. After I contacted customer service, I believe they resolved the issue because that did not continue in later chapters as I finished listening to the book.

I thought Nightfall was beautifully written and a story inspiring for those us that are creators that will likely never sell their work. My only criticism is that the author’s reading was almost breathless and I had to slow the audio down- honestly I’m not sure I would have continued beyond the first chapter if I hadn’t also downloaded the book on kindle! I’m so glad I carried on - I’m still thinking of that magical garden! 💕
