Moonlight Love

He was a middle-aged man, writer, and teacher travelling abroad. One day, he encountered a young local woman with whom he began to chat. She said she was looking for something more than just a fling, to which he replied, "for how long?"

Her response? "Forever".

A deep, lifelong bond forms between two people, but he can't openly show his affection–not out of lack of care, but due to a formal relationship with the love of his life, who has been dealing with a painful, long-term illness.

He's always been fiercely loyal, and his love for her never fades. Even in her current state, it hasn't disenchanted him. He's done everything he can to aid her recovery, but the doctors' prognosis doesn't give much hope.

Over a period of time, he is torn between his ailing true love and a new flame, trying not to hurt anyone. Eventually, he shares his innermost secret with her and is rewarded with support, affection, and a loyal confidant until his first love passes away. From the mingling of pain and delight, he finds his way back to happiness with the new love in his life.
