After Prince Belfast and Captain Flashman tied for first place in Khan the Cruel's Tournament of Death, Khan was forced to offer both the first prize; a kingdom of their choice and bride. To Captain Flashman he gave the Kingdom of the Grottos and the hand of Eve Arden however his kingdom was in revolt. Further he stipulated that the kingdom must be subdued before the marriage could take place. Once at the Kingdom of the Grottos, Captain Flashman defeated the rebel leader Nog and was on the verge of conquering the entire kingdom when without warning, he was attacked by the Frog People. In the ensuing melee, Captain Flashman was knocked senseless. Will Captain Flashman remain senseless? Will he be captured by the Frog People? Or will Eve’s scream of panic save the day? After saving Vulpolis, Captain Flashman, Eve, Prince Belfast and Dr Krakow were released from their bonds of slavery by Queen Vulkaren who also promised to host Captain Flashman and Eve's wedding. In the midst of their pre-wedding banquet, Khan the Cruel arrived. Annoyed that Captain Flashman had been freed, Khan re-arrested him and his friends and forced Captain Flashmanto fight in a tournament whose first prize was both freedom and a kingdom of their own to rule while second prize was never-ending and perpetual death. Will Captain Flashman survive the tournament of death? Will Khan force Eve to marry him? And will Dr Krakow and Prince Belfast's secondary billing seal their doom? After crashing on Vulpolis, a city suspended in mid air, Captain Flashman, Prince Belfast, Dr Krakow and Eve were taken prisoner by Vulkaren, the Queen of the Vulture People. There Eve was sentenced to be the companion of Vulkaren while the others were forced to work in the Bird Cage, the busiest yet most under-staffed restaurant in the city. Through careful planning, all four of our heroes were able to escape the evil clutches of Vulkaren, leaving her for dead on her own throne room floor. When Captain Flashman and Eve became separated from Prince Belfast and Dr Krakow, they were forced to return to the throne room only to find Vulkaren alive and holding a ray gun. Will Captain Flashman and Eve die at the hands of Queen Vulkaren? Will Dr Krakow and Prince Belfast arrive time to save them? Or will the customary ‘something unexpected’ happen again to save our heroes?
