I so enjoyed this book. Growing up in Florida (I’m from Vero Beach and am about the same age. Her retelling brought me down memory lane. And I love her mom!

Sweet and Juicy

Such a sweet and juicy memoir of life growing up in Fort Myers as a minority. I too am from Fort Myers and loved how at home this book felt.

Heart-wrenching & Heartwarming

I may be biased because I’m from the same County in SW Florida, but this was written and delivered beautifully. I felt the shock, pain, love, torture, disgust, joy, pride and sadness through each chapter. I highly recommend.

a really great listen

the Mango tree...a really powerful memoir... how to ever feel normal in a works that's anything but... how to grow up and be a good, loving woman when your role model is a violent bipolar tornado. how to find compassion and understanding and love for that strong and crazy momma. how to find humor in pain... how to find peace and love. Annabel puts it all out there and does it quite well as she tells her family story against the backdrop of the 90s popular culture. she also doesn't shy away from the truth of the legal double standard applied to people of color and the prejudice that still afflicts our society.

Sweet and messy, love this story of family and becoming

Such a great story about how family shapes you, for the good, bad and in-between. There is beauty in everything.

This was a very powerful, heart-breaking yet heartwarming story. I highly recommend reading it.

Love the Perspective

Awesome story told through the lens of the author, as a child, growing through relatable coming-of-age moments, engulfed in unrelatable chaos. Would like to meet the author...would love to meet the mother.

Heartwarming, heartbreaking, honest

Annabelle Tometich's telling of growing up in Fort Myers FL with her troubled parents, racist grandmother (the bedtime story her grandmother would tell had me GASPING), and other friends and family who impacted her life is filled with heartbreak and humor. It couldn't have been easy for the author to revisit many of her memories, but the result is an engaging book that makes you think about identity, belonging, parenting, and love. I loved it and hope we see more from her.
