Featured is the first symphony composed by an American woman, Amy Beach’s Gaelic Symphony and a work by a living composer who often writes for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, August Read Thomas. Once the head of music at what is now Clark Atlanta University, Florence Price wrote a stunning violin concerto, which you’ll hear performed by Atlanta Opera violinist (formerly of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra), Helen Kim.
