With a knife in his gut, Rowan figured he was destined to become just another corpse littering the slums of Taureen.

So he was fairly surprised to wake up in the back of a moving wagon with a couple of adventurers. Turns out that Rowan had been given something most street rats can only dream of—a second chance.

With only a sword, a spell book, and enough gold for tuition, he is thrust into a school for aspiring adventurers. A world full of haughty nobles, scions of wealthy families, and various other types of people he used to steal from.

Here, Rowan must vie for his place among students who have been diving in their family-owned dungeons for years, their bodies filled with dense mana instead of tavern scraps and the occasional pilfered apple pie. He will have to fight, study, and keep his true past a secret.

Because Faebrook Academy is his second chance. His last chance.

About the series: Follow Rowan, a lowly street rat, on his journey to becoming a legendary adventurer in a world where diving monster-filled dungeons infuses your body with mana and helps you climb from lowly bronze tier all the way to the fabled platinum tier. But first, he has to graduate.

several hours worth of listening that don't do anything to advance the plot in any meaningful way. literal play by play of card games, what hand each character has and how much they are betting. I enjoyed the story itself when it wasn't bogged down by character drama and "slice of life" style writing.

decent story with serious pacing issues

Personally, this is the kind of story that I always want to look for. The author has a clear understanding of writing a fantasy novel, where the main character just doesn’t walk through everything having to handed to him he hast to fight, scratch and punch for every inch that he can get.
Too many stories, take a kid with no prior knowledge or experience and turn them into this prodigy, genius that sometimes has to work for stuff, but it’s so much fun to read a story where the main character Hass to truly work to learn, and earn everything that he is getting, and not be the strongest at the same time. The story is fun and lighthearted well also being serious at points I highly recommend this to anyone who is into fantasy novels. I am eagerly looking for the next entry in this series because I can’t get enough of the amazing flavor this story gives off.

An amazing up-and-coming serious and I can’t wait for the next book (by emerald)

Rowan, our MC gets a chance to fulfill one of his dreams, becoming an adventurer. Having been left for dead in an alley only to be rescued by two traveling adventurers who bring him along and train him while traveling to their next destination.

Reaching their destination Rowan is given the option to try out the entry examination for the local Adventurer school.
Here, his new life and path to becoming a strong adventurer begins.

The school environment reminds me of Harry Potter and Mage Errant.

Very good narration by Pavi Proczko.
Looking forward to the next book.

A good start to a new series

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, and adjusted my schedule (plus postponed some projects) to spend extra hours reading it. Superbly crafted...this is an excellent writer, plotter and world builder. He is very thoughtful and expresses himself well. I normally speed read through dungeon crawls, as I don't really fancy the gore and repetition and, paradoxically, the horror that goes with it. But I actually only found myself speed reading a teeny bit in the last dungeon involved, until the big twist occurred. And that clever author, I thought the main character was going to reincarnate as a certain creature, which I found disappointing, had it really happened whew! The author left some clues, such as the "race" results Rowan received early on and decided to keep to himself. Just loved his adventuring companions in the opening chapters, and his favorite professor. I also was deeply intrigued by a certain student who definitely will play an ongoing big role. The academy is fascinating and love the food descriptions (but add more vegan choices!!). This was a fantastic book. How talented you are, M.E. Robinson. And I thank you for so very many wonderful details, which kept me engaged throughout. That was my review from reading the Kindle. I have now listened to the Audible, and it is excellent, too. I appreciated his teacher advisor much more this time around. Pavi Proczko is splendid narrating this great novel. Looking forward to the sequel.
