When David O’Connell joins his family in Port Townsend, Washington, for his sister Teresa’s wedding, they wonder why their normally outgoing, cheerful brother has become subdued and secretive. He balks at discussing his last four years as a surgeon in Africa or his fiancée, Sylvia, who is coming to visit.

Family friend Maddie Leftwood is a serious actress in a sex kitten’s body. The air crackles between David and Maddie from the moment their eyes meet. But over Christmas at the O’Connell Compound, David is fully preoccupied with appeasing his prickly fiancée. David has good reason to tread carefully with Sylvia, but Maddie sees no choice but to move on. She has a leading role at the local theater, where her costar, local heartthrob Kilo, pours on the charm, drawing her into his web.

David knows Maddie is funny and sweet and nothing like the blonde bombshell she appears to be. Maddie knows David is brilliant and complex and refreshingly different from other men. David and Maddie could be great together, if only they can push the reset button. Still, one giant obstacle remains. In Africa, David’s colleagues called him “the magic man”. They didn’t know the half of it.

The Magic Man was a great romance book. The author grabbed my attention from the beginning to the end. The details you could tell the author put some thought into it. The world build and characters was good. if you love a good romance book, I recommend this one.

I love this series, it has so much romance and comedy, a mean girl and family events. Maddie and David are the cutest. They can try to hide it, but it is there for those who are reading this story. So how long can Maddie and David go before they let their true feelings come out? Just what happened to David while he was in Africa? Let's not forget Sylvia David's Fiance, where does she fit in? The author has once again written an intriguing page turner. I listened to the author read her story and was caught within the first chapter. The story was well written and easy to follow. It has everything a great romance can give you. Please read the first 2 book in order. As there is so much more to this story.

The Magic Man The Olympic Peninsula Series, Book 3

David is basically a stranger at the beginning of this book. He was mentioned in passing a few times but not a lot was known. He definitely didn't give me the warm fuzzies.

Maddie is a sweet woman who listens to her heart instead of her brain from time to time. There were a few times that she showed that.

I enjoyed the book overall, but I was unable to make a connection with David which surprised and disappointed me. Ms. Treadgold did a wonderful job narrating and has a voice that is very soothing which was much needed this week.

Looking forward to the next books, but the mystery of Edward is truly intriguing.

Enjoyable listen

Yay, I love that we got to have another in this series. As with all the others, this one lived up to the others. We have a strong female character in Maddie. She goes through a lot of challenges. David O'Connell comes home to join his family and meets Maggie. This is one relationship that I enjoyed watching develop and grow. They have chemistry and were able to work through things. We also got to see familiar faces from the previous books. The narration was good. I do wish the male voice could have been done by a male but it was good. I enjoyed listening to the story. This author really does wonderful writing.

The Magic Man is book 3 of the Olympic Peninsula Series, and I have not read the first two books. However, I found this book easy enough to follow along with (and now I want to go back and read the first two!). This book follows the story of Maddie and David. It's obvious they should be together, but the timing is just never right for either of them. David has his fiancée Sylvia to worry about, and Maddie is having a fling (as she knows it will be) with Kilo. There are obvious feelings there, but it seems they have a hard time admitting it in the beginning. Also, we see David's special talent for healing the ones he loves in this book, and Maddie learns the secret. A very interesting book, indeed! And so refreshing that the author, Cat Treadgold, narrates her own book!
