A rebel pixie princess. A deadly competition between five faerie clans. Will she win the crown or die trying?
Pixie pirate Quinn may be an outlaw, wanted by all five faerie clans, but she prefers it that way. All she wants is to finally become a captain and bury her true identity beneath the rolling waves. But when the sudden death of her twin brother causes her to plot a vengeful heist, a shocking betrayal unmasks her for who she really is—her people’s last living heir.
Her only hope of escaping certain death for her crimes is taking her brother’s place in the Ethodine: a dangerous competition for the faerie crown.
In a series of death-defying trials, Quinn faces off with the heirs of four rival clans:
A mute beast tamer.
A flirtatious merman.
A half-blind artist.
And a pompous princess.
But as dark secrets unravel and an ancient prophecy entwines their fates, rivals must become allies before there’s no world left to rule.
On Wings of Ash and Dust is the action-packed first book in this YA epic fantasy. If you're looking for a fresh take on fae magic, deadly trials, and royal intrigue with a dash of enemies-to-lovers, then you’ll adore Brittany Wang’s whimsical and dangerous tale.

PRAISE FOR ON WINGS OF ASH AND DUST:
“On Wings of Ash and Dust is a wild, glittering, glorious ride from start to finish. Every single character shines in their own unique way, but Quinn especially is a powerhouse of a character. I haven’t rooted so hard for a protagonist to succeed in quite some time! This series has everything: a little romance, a little (a lot of) competition, a little found family, a little enemies to allies to lovers...this book is a delight, and definitely a new favorite!”

What brings them all together is a Hunger Games style competition (just without the kill your competitors) though that doesn’t mean this is a friendly competition. There are deadly aspects in the competition itself, then beyond there are certain fae who will do anything to win.
Our main gal Quinn had ran away and joined a pirate crew years before and its only when a tragedy happens is she conned into competing in these games.
While each of the Fae fractions have their own type of wings and power it is Quinns fraction that doesn’t allow the use of power and instead concentrate on physical strength, because of this their power had seemed to disappear, or so they thought.
There are so many twists and turns in this book it was so much fun trying to guess which direction the author would take us.
Along the way she makes friends with the other competitors learning about their differences and often times they have to lean on each other through some of the competitions.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat and was such an enjoyable read for me.
Narration is by Talon David- She does an amazing job brining Quinn's world to life. She was entertaining to listen to.

This story had so many intricate twists and turns. When I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong. It was a truly enjoyable read with great world building, interesting characters that I came to love. I understand so many of Quinn’s quirks. So much fun!!!
Such a fun ride!

First thing is that the writing style is so fluid and I didn't find anything to complain about. Brittany's world building and character developments are very well thought out and executed.
Second is that I was a bit wary getting another book solely based on an Instagram reel since the last time I did that I ended up regretting it, BUT this was a wonderful surprise. There is no spice, and a lot of people think that no spice means boring. This book is by no means boring at all. I am a fan of some spiciness 🌶 don't get me wrong, but lately it's just spice for the heck of it and I have to skip scenes to get to the plot. That's annoying. So I really love that the transition from the grit to the sweetness of the rivals to lovers plot really shines through.
I love the adventurous spirit of this book that is masterfully woven with secrets and twists I truthfully did not see coming until revealed in the last portion. And I mean come on... it's pirates AND faeries!!! What more can a girl want? 😍
As for the narration, Talon David is a master of her craft. I usually have little gripes here and there on pronunciations or tones of voice used, but this was absolutely flawless. She gave each character their own little spotlight and it was one of my favorite Audible experiences so far. I can't wait to hear more from her!
To sum it up, as a lover of all things fantasy I ✨HIGHLY✨ recommend this book and following this author for the continuation of this story. I can't wait to get my physical copy to add to my collection! 😁
The concept, storyline, characters an world building are Top Notch. Incredible fantasy read with equally incredible narration.
