It was a strong face, certainly—the eyes pale grey and very cold, the mouth was hard, the dark hair-grey-streaked now—still fell in the authentic comma over the forehead. This is how John Pearson reacted to his first encounter with the real James Bond, an encounter probably unique in the annals of thriller writing. He went on to write the bestselling authorized biography of Ian Fleming. At the time, like most of the world he assumed that James Bond was nothing more than a character in Fleming's highly charged imagination. Then he began to have his doubts. Doubts which were reaching such a pitch that the British secret service were trying to warn him off the scent. Despite this, he finally became convinced that James Bond was not only real, but actually alive. Thanks to a change in policy within the secret service he was invited to embark upon a companion volume to his life of Fleming. This resulting book must be one of the most extraordinary biographies of our times—the authorized life of a myth, the official biography of James Bond.

The novel asks the reader to pretend James Bond is actually a real person, and the novels were written based on his real experiences and to fool the Russians. Despite going out on a limb, I really enjoyed the Novel.

Very innovative Novel

The biography concept is an interesting one. It works. I found more interesting the stories of Bond’s adventures during the Cold War created by the author to be totally cool.

Interesting concept.

This was an amazing read for fans of all things James Bond, a retelling of James's "life story", that although it is fiction, reads like a true story and makes the mythos far more interesting. Great narration, fantastic plot and a great addition to the films and other books.

I'm glad I read the favorable reviews first convincing me to buy this surprising book. The idea behind it is clever, the writing fulfills the promise. Narration perfect. I am a big 007 fan yet the tie in references to Bond World seem new and smart because they're coming from an often humorous tilted angle.

Very good!
