This book is an honest and vulnerable first-person account of Celeste Edmunds a young woman who was raised by drug addict parents and, at a young age, learned to survive and protect her siblings among rapists and drug dealers. Eventually the state separated the family and Celeste was adopted, alone, into a dysfunctional, fractured home where she was treated, by a sadistic and manipulating mother, as an unwanted outsider. Contemplating taking her abusers life, she eventually ran away, finding shelter wherever she could, until a compassionate woman stepped in to give her a home and love. Ultimately, Garbage Bag Girl, is an unforgettable story of hope.

This book was so beautiful full of vulnerability, sadness, and hope. It’s so inspiring to read how someone can create such empowering change when they have gone through something horrendous. This story is a story of hope and forgiveness. I highly recommended this read.

Such an amazing book! Once I began listening, I couldn’t stop until I finished. This author deserves the world, I hope to learn more about her story!

Captivating, Resilience, & Strength

The main character endured such a difficult childhood - but her contribution with the Christmas box house is such a success story

Heartbreaking story

I was heartbroken as I listened to the horrors this little child went through and infuriated at the lack of follow through and belief that our justice system had to NOT protect these little kids. And it is also triumphant how Celeste found the support she needed and made a better life for herself. Her story is empowering. Bless her for all the good she is trying to pay forward.

Heartbreakingly triumphant

Celeste’s resilience & positivity in the face of such evil are aspirational. She went through more in her first 8 years than most people deal with in their entire lives. Nobody should ever have to endure the atrocities she experienced, but in the midst of all that, she still found the will to survive. Her conscious choice at 12 to be a different person seemed to have changed the trajectory of her life. She chose to be better than her abusive adoptive mother, & because of that, her life, it seems, is full.

Both heartbreaking & heartwarming
