THE CLEVER AND INTRIGUING CRIME MYSTERY FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT TOP TEN SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, THE TURNGLASS.

A new Sherlock Holmes novel, endorsed by the Conan Doyle Estate.

'A wonderfully entertaining, high-speed, high-stakes adventure with two, no FOUR and more, characters from classic detective fiction! An accomplished tribute, true to the spirit of Conan-Doyle, but with a thrillingly original story and enough accomplished inventiveness to captivate and satisfy' Janice Hallett

Two adversaries. One deadly alliance. Together, can they unlock the truth?

Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson have been hired by actor George Reynolds to help him solve a puzzle. George wants to know why the audience who comes to see him perform are the same people, only wearing different disguises each night. Is something sinister going on and, if so, what?

Meanwhile, Holmes’ archenemy, Professor James Moriarty is having problems of his own. Implicated in the murder of a gang leader, Moriarty and his second, Moran, must go on the run from the police in order to find out who is behind the set-up.

But their investigation puts them in the way of Holmes and Watson and it’s not long before all four realise that they are being targeted by the same person. With their lives on the line, they must form an uneasy alliance in order to unmask the true villain. With clues leading them to a conspiracy far greater than any of them expected, who can be trusted – and who will survive?

'Beautifully written and perfectly capturing the Holmesian spirit. And, yes, sometimes I side with Prof. Moriarty, and I don't care who knows it. Love an evil genius . . .' Vaseem Khan

'Holmes and Moriarty is a rip-roaring thriller, fast-paced and twisty as the greatest detective and the greatest criminal become unlikely allies against the most formidable foes' Martin Edwards©2024 Gareth Rubin (P)2024 Simon & Schuster, UK

Critic reviews

‘Rubin brings Sherlock back to blazing life in this intriguing new mystery’ Crime Monthly

‘Rubin gives Holmes and Moriarty an authentic feel . . . weaving enough Conan Doyle in to feel right and infusing it with an originality . . . convincing, highly entertaining and smart’ CrimeTime FM

‘If you loved Gareth’s 2023 novel The Turnglass, then make this top of your TBR pile . . . Such a pacy read, and one not just for Holmes fans but anyone who enjoys a race against time’ Belfast Telegraph

‘I was literally holding my breath towards the end of the book; I thoroughly enjoyed it’ South London Press

‘A mouth-wateringly ingenious premise’ The Telegraph

‘Aiming to slot seamlessly into Conan Doyle’s existing canon rather than upend it, Rubin constructs a tightly plotted, slightly fantastical mystery that is so far up the street of traditional Holmes fans it’s practically knocking down the front door of 221B’ Buzz Magazine

‘Entertaining and a pleasant addition to a growing post-Conan Doyle canon’ Crime Time

Compelling story. Riveting and exciting. I hope to read other novels of this genre.

I enjoyed the character changes.

This was a creative idea, teaming up with the bad guys. the portrayal of Sebastian Moran was fantastic. Holmes was too passive, spending much of the adventure oohing and aahing but lacking the wit that I hoped to find. Moriarty seemed a two-dimensional mustache twirling villain. Many plot holes made it difficult to enjoy.

An okay Holmes story
