He also builds a community around his humble pub—one that he must soon defend, or they’ll all face a fate much worse than death . . .

its good

a nice cozy story that is very different from the other ones right now . the narrator is solid

absolutely loved this new series, I felt like it really leaned into what makes a novel a cozy fantasy and did really well drawing inspiration from inside the genre

pretty good

Enjoyed the story and performance a lot. Only thing I would gripe about is that a number of the creatures the MC fought didn't have any description to them. We weren't really give a description for some of the few that were fought, but through how the combat occurred we'd learn that it had claws or something like that. I would have liked to see more of a description of the creature either before or during those kinds of scenes.

Exactly what I was hoping for

The perfect blend of cozy fantasy and litrpg. I didn’t find the stat ratings to be annoying throughout the story or distracting from the plot, which is often one of my concerns in the litrpg genre. The narrator is absolutely fantastic, he has quickly become one of my favorite audiobook readers.

I think one of my favorite parts about “cozy” stories are the character development and Harmon Cooper really created quite the variety of charming, captivating, annoying, heartwarming, and even utterly obnoxious souls. Especially Patches. I would die for him.

I already can’t wait for the next book, September is too far away!

Loved This Book!!

This was one great story to listen to and I just l loved the Characters! This author did a excellent job with this story and how the characters and World were built up as the book progressed. I can Not wait to Start the Next book in this Series. Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.

Patches!!

Don’t let them fool you, this is about the overseer of the tavernly realm. Patches is a chonky pub cat who finally gets a loyal subject to brew ale and clean up the pub. Because when people visit the pub, patches gets attention which increases his overall power (MLUs). That power allows him to grow strong and use his abilities to protect the tavernly realm from intruders like thieves and demons.
Yeah ok, so Sylas is the guy who dies, finds out he is in the underworld and now is the owner of a pub. He encounters Mira an apothecary who helps guide him. He aspires to bring “life” back to the sleepy town by getting everyone together regularly over a pint and some good food. There are a wonderful ensemble of characters with unique abilities and characteristics, but Patches is the star. And you should know better than to ignore the wishes of a cat, so go read/listen for yourself.

It’s a slice of underworld life

The story is engaging enough to keep you interested. The characters seemed a little slow but he has room for growth.
The few things that made me dislike the book were re-reading/ writing the same few sentences and the narrative follows both.
Example Like, Patches the cat killed a rat. The rat was dead because patches killed it. this only happened like maybe 2-3 times. But it seems like it got missed out on the edit.

This was one of the best books I’ve listened to for a while I only wish it were longer. Matthew Wolf is an excellent narrator and has so many voice. It’s incredible.

Cozy and Adventurous!

Cozy! Adventurous! Beautifully written and absolutely incredible story! I just loved everything about this book from beginning to end. The characters were all fantastic, and the story was cozy yet intriguing enough that it was hard to put down. I look forward to reading more by this author, and especially upcoming books in this series!

If you loved The House Witch by Delemhach, you'll LOVE this one!

ETA: Seriously, this book was so good that I can't even figure out what to read next. It's one of my top favorites this year so far (out of almost 100 books)!
