Fanny Gardiner Bennet is the third person in a family that fell victim to a terrible Generational Curse. She followed the advice of her mother, a woman who treated all of her children save Fanny, as if they were strangers come to ask for money. Lydia Gardiner, Fanny’s mother told her that she would know from birth, the child who would elevate her to the highest echelon of society. From the moment of Lydia’s birth, her other four daughters, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary and Katherine became, ‘those girls’ to Fanny. She wanted nothing to do with any of them, save use and abuse them as much as she could. Whilst they were all still very young, she decided to murder each of the girls, for complete and utter superficial reasons of her own. Jane, Elizabeth, Mary and Katherine learned to wrap themselves in Silence, as most times that was their only escape from a mother, who most would believe insane.
But Fanny is not insane, she is evil! Evil to the core, as the third victim of a generational curse, Fanny is greedy, vain, vulgar, petty, has a violent temper, has no accomplishments whatsoever and is uneducated. She truly believes beauty is the only thing any woman needs to capture the attentions of a wealthy man and raise her society. As it had actually worked for her, no one could gainsay her on the matter.
Unfortunately, Henry Bennet the girl’s father is an indolent, solvently, unambitious man, who only becomes worse as time goes on. He convinces himself that he cannot be bothered nor spare the time for his unruly, undiscipline daughters. He leaves all of them at the mercy of his wife. Even when he sees how she is treating four of his daughters, he brushes it off saying to himself and others, it is Fanny’s right to discipline their daughters in any way she sees fit.
The girls will gain many allies as time continues but there will also be trials, tribulations, death and heartache along the way as well. Then just as something wonderous happens and the girls believe they might have a chance at leaving Longbourn forever. A terrible tragedy happens which takes them back into the nightmare they grew up in.
Soon the girls gain other allies, one of them with a strange and unusual power of his own. But their very lives are in danger, once again due to an unexpected event, that should have brought them great joy. Instead they are on the run trying to stay ahead of the people who would see them all dead.
Who will save the girls? Will there be a HAE for any of them? Will they be able to break the Generational Curse, or will it break them? Read on and begin the adventure in Book 1 of Silence.

If you feel the scene might cause you to become distressed, please jump ahead of it, the book can be read without them. You will not have any trouble keeping up I assure you. I like the story even with the virtual voice. It was very suspenseful and quite creative. I was unsure about starting it because of the abuse involved, but once I did I had to keep listening. I so wish book 2 would come out.

Even with virtual voice story is good

this is an excellent light reading series. Garrou is quickly becoming a new favorite author. she tends to overuse period words like "mayhap" (literally several times in the same speech), but overall it's a great guilty pleasure that has no smut. can't wait for the next one but can't find any info on it's release!

V Voice still mispronounces Darcy some of the time. Some new characters and a plot that kept me listening. Where is part 2? Can’t wait to see where the story goes.

This author creates some intriguing plots!
