Kit is one of the last holdouts of a female-led resistance to New Bethel's utopian, patriarchal vision. She's tough. Maybe too tough. She's never known real laughter. She's never let herself cry.

Senator Roman Daley intends to change that.

Roman started the colony of Paternas to reform women like Kit and wants to set the example by training his own rebel as a marriage prospect. On Paternas, he plans to give her what she needs: the firm guidance of the daddy she never had and a second childhood childhood full of love and nurturing.

For a rebel leader like Kit, the colony represents everything she is fighting, but Roman's strict control combined with care and understanding creates a conflict she never expected, and feelings she can't ignore.

Can Roman win her trust enough to tell her the real reason he selected her? The patriarchal utopia isn't as perfect as it seems. Roman plans to change it with Kit's help, but before she can become his ally, she must learn to obey.
