This title uses virtual voice narration

Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.

From TheReadingCafe.com: "the characters are diverse, distinctive and unconventional but such are the personalities of every entertaining story of science fiction. CORVUS ASCENDING begins slowly but accelerates at 'warp speed'."

Wisecracking star-sailor Gus Johansson’s beach bum retirement suddenly goes from boring to blazing when he pulls a 1400-year-old robot and a sentient spaceship from the sea. Soon, Gus and his crew of misfits are in the fight of their lives against an old enemy. The vengeful Captain Harrison “Hazy” Grey is convinced he can finally get his Admiral’s flag by capturing that ship; and he doesn’t care who he has to kill to do it.

The narration was awful. Just pay a voice actor the money to narrate. They are worth it! It was hard to connect and invest in the story due to the monotone emotionless computer generated narration. It was also very hard to tell when the story would switch from one characters point of view to another, again due to awful narration. I would give the book a mulligan but please hire an actual narrator!

Space adventures are not my go to listen, but this one is not bad. The virtual voice is monotone and dead. It brings no life to the characters, and does nothing to show any emotions to the story. If I want a dead and monotone voice in the story, I could just read it myself. The lack of any inflection in the voice makes it difficult to follow the story in places, you have to rely on context to know when a different character is speaking, or when it changes perspective to a different character. It is easy enough to do, but it is irritating when you are half way through a sentence and realize it is somebody else on a different ship.

Narration is dead

the Ai needed to be more like a person and it mispronounced words a lot.

The book is really good, but the automatic narration still wrestles with some serious authenticity issues: Emphasis on certain syllables and words in certain situations, especially when people are under stress, is just not there. This makes the narration really flat and so annoying in the long run I had to stop listening even though i liked the book.

Good book, below par automated narration

The story was not bad. kind of seemed like a first attempt to write a story. Probably be better narrated by a person and not an AI. it was a free book so that made it a really good book.

Hard to follow with the AI narration.
