Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.

He has no name. No past. Only a number and a mission.

When Agent 917 wakes in a seedy motel, his memory is gone. An encrypted phone buzzes with mission orders. A dime-sized implant pulses inside his skull, awakening violent instincts.

The rules are simple. Kill the target. Go back to sleep.

Programmed to eliminate evil at its source, 917 is a ghost in the system—he hunts a sadistic surgeon and a cult hiding in the heart of New York City. But with every kill, cracks appear in the wall of his artificial amnesia. A daughter. A betrayal. A choice.

As his past bleeds into his present, 917 must decide: Is he a hero, or is he being manipulated?

What happens if he stops following orders?

"Amnesia" is a pulse-pounding psychological technothriller perfect for fans of Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and Orphan X.

If you love the high-stakes suspense of David Baldacci, the dark grit of Dean Koontz, and the relentless pacing of Gregg Hurwitz, you’ll love Agent 917.

I thought this short story was excellent. It had a captivating story line with a lot of suspense. The ending was soooo good.
I must say that I had a hard time accessing the review option. This is probably why there's no previous reviews.

Dislike the automated voice. The inflection and pronunciation is off at times. It also contributes to loss of jobs of people.
The story was pretty good. It is a bit scary imagining what others can do to us in the name of good.

Good story line

The story idea is intriguing, but the AI narration is horrible. Shows no emotion, not even in critical places. Puts me to sleep. Lots of mispronunciations and inappropriate phrasing.
Hard to listen to. Not sure I’ll finish it.

Terrible narration

The Virtual Voice detracted from an otherwise enjoyable story. Female voices are ignored throughout though there were numerous female characters.
