Publisher's summary
Falsely accused of being a loose woman, she has nowhere else to go. His heart belongs to another, and he has no desire to become entangled.
A victim of misplaced affections, Leah Dearing dreams of starting over in Oregon where she can own land and put her past behind her. But as a single woman, she is refused a place in the wagon train, no matter that she’s more than capable of doing all she needs. Desperate to build a new life for herself, she is willing to do anything—including a marriage in name only.
Stanley Keith has no intention of heading out West with a bride until he overhears Leah’s plight. He knows the way will be difficult and many don’t make it. To top it off, he’s got a woman waiting for him when he gets there. Yet, something about her determination sparks in him, and before he’s realized it he offers to let her join him on his journey in exchange for her cooking and companionship.
However, the trail is long and dangerous, and the challenges they face might be more than either realized. Especially when one of them starts to fall in love…and the reminder of another waiting for them at the end of the trail becomes impossible to ignore.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

5+ stars for this one-click audiobook
Story Impressions –
Fleeing her past, Leah heads west on the wagon train. Frustrated by biases, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to be allowed on the wagon train. She meets Stanley and he offers her a partnership of sorts. As they traverse the long journey to Oregon, they grow closer. But with Stanley’s woman waiting for him in Oregon, will Leah let go of true love or fight for his love?
This is such an addictive historical western romance audiobook. The narrator brings the story to life with immersive narration, emotional tension, and characters that’ll steal your heart. The trials and tribulations of the old west are clearly illustrated. The romance is wholesome, yet the emotions make it impossible to turn away. If you love historical western romance, you’ll want to listen to A Journey for Leah.

Narrator’s pacing – Spencer’s pacing is flawless. I was transfixed while listening.
Audiobook flow – He lets the audiobook develop naturally through the use of dialogue, narration, and characterization.
What makes this audiobook unique – Spencer and the author partner up to bring readers/listeners an engaging historical western romance. The plot is full of intrigue which adds to the enjoyment while listening. The subject matter is poignantly acted in this audiobook.

Intriguing!
The intrigue continues to build throughout the story. Stanley is such a wonderful man of integrity, willing to sacrifice the love of his heart, to keep his word. This story was so good, weeks after I read it, I saw it was available on Audible… oh my! Hearing the story drew me in like I was standing right next to them! I highly recommend this book, especially the audio version.
