When the scandal sheets reveal Daphne as the resident composer for the Arcadian music hall, she draws the ire of people who want her gone from London – including her former husband, Adam Randall, the Earl of Wakefield. Daphne is determined to stay and uncover who set out to destroy her marriage and why. When her life is threatened, however, the primary suspect turns out to be her relentless former husband.

Adam fell in love with Daphne within moments of meeting her. When their marriage ended with betrayal and lies, he lost his political future and his family’s legacy. He’s spent six years rebuilding his life as an archeologist in Egypt. He triumphantly returns to England ready to resume his place in society, and hopefully take a position at Oxford – that is if he can remain free of scandal. He’s not the problem, though. It’s Daphne.
