Nearing age 70, with five long-distance European hikes in the bag, Reg is finally ready to tackle one of the most iconic treks the United States offers.

Or is he?

A self-proclaimed slackpacker who enjoys a shower, cold beer, and warm bed at the end of each dusty day, Reg throws caution aside, signing on with a packing company for a 30-day trek along California's historic John Muir Trail.

With the support of three packers on horseback, each leading a team of mules, Reg, his wife Sue, and nine other hikers set foot on a 246-mile adventure through the stunning Sierra Nevada wilderness.

Daily challenges await, including seemingly insurmountable high-elevation climbs under scorching sun as well as rocky, knee-busting descents. No showers, no toilets, no warm bed.

Will Reg overcome his mountain of misgivings as he plunges into the unknown?

"Read the exciting account of Reg and Sue's remarkable transformation...their story is fascinating, entertaining, and powerfully inspiring."
--Tom Hesch, author, Twenty Years to the Finish Line

I loved hearing this supported JMT adventure. I listen to a lot of hiking stories, and this one did NOT disappoint. Nicely written, and though the virtual voice only once in a while mispronounced something or gave a slightly wrong inflection, it was not distracting at all. It's actually amazing how well the virtual voice did! And I thoroughly enjoyed the details of such an adventure. Way to go Reg for putting together such a fine book!

enjoyable listen!

the AI reader was pretty amazing but I also felt that alot of genuine integrity of the adventure was lost as a result. I do prefer a real human!!!!

I love adventures

Love this story. Hard to imagine a 69-year-old man making the journey of the John Muir trail. The virtual voice was pleasant enough, but didn't know how to pronounce a lot of the words. I would recommend to anyone who loves to read about hiking the Long Trail. JS

Love this story.

Well written, moves along at a nice pace. Not a real fan of AI narration. Enjoyed listening to it.

Spittle writes with a raw honesty that feels both vulnerable and deeply personal. He makes you feel like you’re walking the trail along side him.

I’ve just finished Spittles latest book. Enjoy every chapter!
