___

In this gripping memoir, Jimmy “Slim” Rumsey tells the extraordinary story of his life.

His inspiring perspective arose out of his struggles as a teenager and young adult after confronting his most difficult challenges of seeking redemption for his past, embarking on a process of self-healing, and extending forgiveness.

Jimmy was born on the run to a fugitive father, coming of age in California as a formidable gang member, serving time behind bars, and nearly losing his life after being shot in the face at close range.

The pages inside this book stand as a genuine testament to the power of positive personal transformation.

The resilience

Jimmy grew up with severe abuse and neglect; he had no role models, which is why gangs exist. The gang he joined was a collection of young souls desperate for guidance and connection, like the other gangs just like his that gather together on street corners like killer corner, hungry to make meaning of their lives. Jimmy searched for guidance his whole life and eventually learned to recognize and receive it, once he was shot in the face at point blank range. There was slow work ahead as he crawled out of that hole, made mistakes, and worked towards different choices. Today Jimmy is the role model and father that he so desperately needed. He will always feel that hole, but it will also always be filled with the love he has found and works hard to bring into his life. It is so much easier to give than receive when you're a fighter. I hope he keeps receiving that love. He deserves every ounce of it.

Jimmy is the definition of hope
