From the author of White Trash Warlock and Dark Moon Shallow Sea, Rogue Community College is a delightful fantasy full of magic and mayhem …

Isaac Frost is an assassin. Raised in the Graveyard of the cruel and mysterious Undertaker, he has mastered the deadly art of the knife and the skill of survival, together with scores of others just like him—young men taken from their families to become the most infamous killers throughout the realms of elves and humans. But Isaac is unique: a single drop of another’s blood can confer upon him the knowledge and power of friend and foe alike.

After crossing paths with the elf queen Argent, Isaac is sent to a strange magical school for wayward practitioners in the hopes that he can learn where he—and his unusual talent—fit in the world. Isaac is charmed by the school’s chaotic nature and finds himself unexpectedly drawn to Vran, a Sea Elf haunted by secret knowledge.

But Vran isn’t the only one with secrets, and Isaac’s arrival is no accident. The Undertaker has charged him with infiltrating the school for the purpose of destroying it utterly, and his future rests on completing his mission—before the Undertaker takes matters into his own hands.

I really want to go back and start the whole series over and read them all together. This was great and sort of sad but I completely loved all of it.

Love this series.

Full disclosure, I have already read all of the Adam Binder books, and this one is a spinoff from that series. That said, I fell in love with Isaac and Vran in this novel! And not only their story (which is the focus) but the author introduces many new characters to the world. The class and the teachers are all so intriguing that it made this story a “page turner” for me. I became very emotionally invested while listening to this (the ending!!) but in the best way. I can’t wait to read the next. I hope there will be more!?

Fantastic world building and characters

Ooof. I was feeling some big feels while reading this book. And I loved every minute of it. It had a layered storyline, witty dialogue, surprising plot twists, flawed main characters, mystery, and suspense all woven together in a captivating plot. Isaac, a supernatural hitman is sent to kill/destroy the heart of the new Elvin school for wayward practitioners. He has grown up isolated from society and caring for others was not part of his training at murder school. So he is unprepared for the students, the fact that the school seems alive, his attraction to Vran, one of the other students, or his changing loyalties. I loved Isaac’s character arc especially his navigation of the growing relationships he has with the other students and his feelings about his place in the world. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, mysteries, paranormal creatures, loyal friends and family, complicated families, painful pasts, mystical coincidences, snark, love, secrets, and laughs. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Michael David Axtell did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

Great start to the series.

Isaac is a great main character and Vran…no spoilers, but wow! The writing is propulsive and the action doesn’t let up. I can’t wait to read more books in this world!

Action, emotion, and a cool premise!
