New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath returns to the fan favorite series, The Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James, with the story of a viscount who has retreated to a small, secluded island only to have a mysterious and beautiful woman wash up on shore.

After surviving a horrific railway accident, Viscount Langdon retreats to his private island to recover and conquer the nightmarish memories that continue to haunt him. The very last thing he wants—or expects—is for London’s most infamous courtesan to wash up on his beach.

Marlowe is known for her bold flirtations, but her most daring exploits involve flying in her hot air balloon. When a storm blows her off course, she discovers herself alone with the isle’s only inhabitant. The gorgeous, seductive lord tempts her beyond reason, but giving into temptation would lead to her ruination because the all-consuming liaison would demand complete surrender. And she has secrets to protect.

Langdon finds the captivating beauty near impossible to resist, but he can’t risk her learning the true reason behind his isolation. However, a powerful tempest of desire is swirling wildly between them, urging them to give in to the perilous passion that could destroy them . . . or perhaps show them the way to love.

This book is one of my favorites. As an RN, I work with many veterans and people of accidents with PTSD. Everyone that responds differently in the face of disastrous events.
You wrote accurately about nightmares, triggers, being alone, loud noises or smells. My father in law lost is mind for numbers after damage to his brain as your character did. He also loved playing cards with his friends and was a gifted businessman.

Bringing these two characters together with different injuries and life experiences resulting in similar fears was a beautiful story.
I look forward to opening your next book in this series. I have enjoyed past characters in your two series.

I appreciated how they both have invisible hurts that are somehow soothed by the presence of each other. I most especially loved the how the previous characters of Feagans’ lads and their offspring are a large extended family of Viscount Langdon. I have loved this series and look forward to additional books.

The unusual beginning of their romance.

I was so excited to get this book as preordered, but once I began listening, my excitement turned to dismay. Since I usually enjoy Ms Heath's books, I'm blaming it on the narrator. Mr Witt has a nice voice and did a pretty good job with women's voices. But, his reading is slow....very slow and increasing the narration speed didn't help much. Mr. Witt's presentation of the male lead's very deep voice was not so good. At times it was very low and at other times it was Mr. Witt's natural voice. The story line was a bit off-putting at times, but was still different and interesting. The characters were well-developed and likeable. However, I stopped listening at chapter 25 then jumped to the epilogue. I will probably return to listen again....and give a more positive review. In the meantime, please continue writing your delightful books, Ms Heath.

Disappointed

I’m so glad I didn’t pay attention to the early reviews I read. I absolutely love this series of books and was delighted to find out what happened to more of the original characters’ children. I love the way Lorraine does the research and finds interesting aspects of the time period to bring into these stories. This book was no exception, incorporating railway accidents and ballooning. I didn’t find the narrator to be too slow as other listeners did, but I did find a few of the secondary character voices to be off. The hero’s parents and their friends sounded too old. They would only have been in their 50s by the time these stories took place, not in their 80s. Since I have listened to the original series books multiple times, it was jarring to hear them sound so different. However, the hero and heroine sounded lovely to me.

A Pleasure to Return to this Series

I love Heath’s work but this story was predictable and not her best. I would probably have liked it better with a better narrator but he was AWFUL. He was boring and read slow. His character voices didn’t really change from one to the other so that was confusing. To get through i had to listen at 1.2 speed just to have him sound somewhat normal.
