“Unique, fresh and gripping.” —Kennedy Ryan, New York Times Bestselling Author

Amara Johnson has spent her life following the rules, always choosing stability over risk. But when she returns to Memphis for her estranged grandfather’s funeral, she inherits more than just his crumbling house. She inherits his unfinished story. A once-renowned blues musician, his name has been nearly erased, his legacy buried beneath family silence and years of regret.

Jake Barnes knew the man her family won’t speak of. He also sees something in Amara she has spent years trying to ignore. When he offers her a chance to record in Nashville, the pull is undeniable. But stepping into a world built on dreams means confronting the ones she abandoned. As she stands at a crossroads between the life she has always known and the one she never let herself imagine, Amara must decide whether to follow expectations or finally find the courage to listen to her own voice.

I don't think I've ever listened to a book about a black country singer. I absolutely loved the book. I can't wait for the TV adaptation. The book was well worth the credit!

Refreshing

Rifts and Refrains is not just a story, a lovely slow burn, it is an education. Jake and Mari’s story provide lessons in forgiveness, redemption, perseverance, love, and acceptance. Mari teaches us to leap and follow your dreams in spite of other’s opinions and obstacles. Country music is one of my favorite genres of music. I am excited about the strides African Americans are making in the genre. Thank you Tiye for spotlighting our contributions and accomplishments. We are Country. It is in our roots and heritage. Benjamin Charles and Iikane also did an phenomenal job bringing this story to life. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. Benjamin Charles has grown on me; he narrated this novel perfectly. A perfect match with iiKane. This was a cute storyline basically centered around African Americans and Country music. It was getting back what belonged. I am so glad that Amara did not give up in learning all she could about her granddad Stony. It led to his victory, although he was not alive to witness. That is how the music business can be with being manipulated due to being naive, in love, revenge, and even lack of understanding. Money doesn’t always solve the problems. In the midst of Amara’s exploration, she found love in someone that believed in her and what inspired her. Relationships that were torn apart or under distress were rekindled. This is one of those novels where even if you start later in life; if it’s in you, it can be revealed. In the end it’s a beautiful thing. This is movie worthy.

This story was so good and compelling. I loved how Tiye weaved together multiple themes such as identity, family, and music. The characters were richly drawn and well developed. I also loved that Tiye wrote more than just a romance story but also tackled the complexities of family, the weight of legacy, and the struggle to find one's true voice.

Slow burns are my favorite and Amara and Jake did not disappoint in that department. It was paced so well, and I could feel the burn and anticipation until the very end. The romance was sweet and tender that added a delightful layer of tension to the story without overpowering the main themes, which I appreciated.

Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves romance, family dramas, or stories of self-discovery. It's a beautifully written and heartfelt story that left me feeling warm inside. Lastly, the narrators did a wonderful job!
