long winded

the main character is just boring he thinks too much and over thinking everything

Good but one glaring flaw

A pretty good story and new twist on how the second life thing begins. What I’d critique is the CONSTANT clenching of teeth and cursing/swearing of the main character. It’s excessive, doesn’t fit the whole redemption theme, and just gets old fast. Cut out every instance of that and the book would be great.

Beginner LitRPG Short Story

This book would have been much better if it didn't end right at the beginning of the story.
what I mean is that excluding the last 2 hours this entire book is one big intro scene. The story is super linear with the MC having arrived to the world basically 5 minutes before the entire country lost to the big bad. Good book for kids... except for the overt attempt to force some semblance of a love triangle/sex thing -esque something...

With plenty of pop-cultural references and an Easter-egg or two you'll have fun!

Initially I really wasn't sure I liked it much Hunter the MC character was OK but let his pseudo father walk all over 'em. And I really didn't like that! So after he was given a quest and a team selected by the king! After his honorary guards died due to an ambush by the enemy of Quetzalcoatlus ridden Ur-sags. It wasn't until that point when he was able to join up with Brandy the Druid, that story became mesmerizing. And Hunter actually even managed to bond with a sword! To find out how that happened you're gonna need to grab the book or better yet grab the audiobook as Adam Verner has a great voice. With plenty of pop-cultural references and even an Easter-egg or two, I know you'll have a good time!

a good start

full disclosure this is the first time I've come across anything from this author so far as I'm aware as I cannot disprove the possibility of a pen name. I got the audiobook as a discount by having already picked up the ebook through the Kindle unlimited program. despite my best efforts that factor does skew my review. the short example being that I picked up a video game for $5 and thought it was amazing but would have been less charitable if I had had to pay full price because it wasn't perfect. when it comes to a review I try and separate my personal taste from the quality of the work. this book seem to be pretty good for the first of a new series. there was nothing that stood out as being terrible, but also nothing that made me eager to pick up the sequel. our main character has died but he doesn't know how he died. there is a heaven and a hell and he's going to the second one when an angel intervenes with a proposal. go to another world and save it for the chance of going to heaven. dropped into an alternate version of himself in a world with magic he sets out to do just that. there's a couple of twists or turns in the story, but they didn't seem as impactful as perhaps they might have been if there was more Buy in on the characters. what I mean is that I didn't feel as invested so those twists didn't hit that hard. I do appreciate that there's not a cliffhanger because I hate those. to me the story came off a little anemic. our main character fulfills a series of game like quests meeting a number of people on the way, most of whom do not seem to matter, all the while trying to learn this new system of magic. we get a small victory for our main character and a large defeat for the rest of the world. he definitely has a lot of work ahead of him.
