She was supposed to get married. Instead, she vanished.

On the morning of her wedding, Olivia Lakewell stood outside a picturesque California chapel, ready to say “I do.” She never made it inside.

Vanished without a trace, Olivia became the subject of local legend—a tragic love story with no ending. Her fiancé was shattered. Her daughter left without a mother. And after years of searching, the town finally let her memory fade.

Until now.

Ten years later, Olivia returns. But nothing is how she left it. Her home is gone. Her husband has moved on. And the people she loved have spent a decade learning to live without her.

But the past isn’t done with her yet.

The deeper she digs, the darker the truth becomes. Lies unravel, secrets surface, and someone out there will do anything—anything—to keep what really happened that day buried.

Olivia was taken once—she won’t let it happen again.

Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn, Freida McFadden, Ruth Ware, and Alice Feeney, The Forgotten Bride is a fast-paced, twist-filled domestic thriller that will keep you up all night, questioning everything. Packed with psychological suspense, shocking betrayals, and a jaw-dropping ending, this is the book thriller fans can’t stop talking about.

🔪 One wedding. One disappearance. One chilling truth.

The Forgotten Bride: A twisty psychological thriller by Philip Anthony Smith. (The Bride Book 1, my first read from author Philip Anthony Smith, an author I'd not heard of before receiving a complimentary Kindle copy of this book back in October of last year. A suspenseful psychological drama played out over the length of the 378-pages. Now I'm reading it & voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll be reading more from this author; in fact, I've gone out & got the rest of the books in the series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Honestly, I think I could have liked this book if a real person narrated it, but, as it stands, I couldn't even finish listening (and I RARELY quit a book)! All the wrong inflections and no way to discern one character from the next most times leaves this narration impossible to follow. Leave human things up to the humans, please!!!

Stop with the AI narration!

I started off really enjoying this story, but the longer it went on the less I enjoyed it until, at some point around five or six chapters before the end of it, I kept looking to see how much time was left, because I was really ready for it to be over. The premise of the story is a good one, and for most of the story I was intrigued, in spite of the weird narration, which used improper inflections and phraseology. This story was supposed to be taking place in California, but local police used terms that would only be used in Great Britain or somewhere else such as instead of calling it a helicopter, California cops called it a whirly.
The twist and turns began to be ridiculous near the end of the story, but Long before that, the main characters behavior and actions were tiresome. Kudos to the author for coming up with what could’ve been a great plot and storyline, and for putting it together in an intriguing way for most of the story, but maybe next time don’t try to squeeze too much into it at the end, or at least don’t try to drag it out so far.
