Father may have been prepared to meet a demon, but he wasn’t ready for Noah.

The trip to the Linwick Estate is finally complete. A meeting with Father looms, and with it the greatest threat that Noah has ever faced. Not only does he have to pretend to be the demon that Father sent his own son to get killed by, but he needs to find a way to trick the paranoid man into revealing the secret to killing the very demon that he’s taken the spot of.

Everyone in the Estate seems to have ulterior motives and Noah’s students aren’t an exception. The truth behind why Isabel and Todd were assigned to Vermil’s tutelage in the first place lurks in the shadows, impatient to rear its head.

The tenuous tower of cards that Noah has built threatens to tumble to the ground. Enemies surround him and Father’s machinations stretch farther than anyone ever could have guessed.

There’s just one thing he didn’t account for. As dangerous and experienced as Father is, Noah is older—and he’s a far better liar.

Glad to have a roadmap for the next few books because I’m really looking forward to listening to more. Great characters, interesting plot, cool magic system, and a great narrator.

Enjoying this series.

First book hooked me and this one did week to keep my interest. Jumping on to book three in the series.

Decent continuation

I said it in the title, but I’ll say it here too: I really appreciate how long this book is. It feels like I got my moneys worth out of it, not these silly little eight or 10 hour books that I’ve been reading lately. Even though it’s a straight on continuation of the previous book, it has a beginning, middle, end, and wraps up its particular threads nicely, while leaving open plenty of new ones for what comes next.
Fun new characters, and growth of existing characters.

The writing and editing is quite excellent. I hate that I have to say that these days, but with so many independent authors not having professional editing done, there are a lot of books where the bad grammar and incorrect word usage can really disrupt the flow. This is not one of those.

I took a star off the narration, not because there’s anything wrong with it as a narration goes—Ramon is as good as ever—but because the audio is distorted. Actually it’s clipped. As if it was recorded at too low of a volume, and then over compressed to get it to an acceptable listening volume. I don’t know where that problem originates, whether in the recording set up, or with Audible’s alleged unpleasant post processing, but either way I don’t like it. Have to turn my headphones up pretty loud to hear this, especially when using a cheap single ear Bluetooth, and the clipping is quite noticeable. I don’t remember the first book being like that.

Good progression of big overall plot. Satisfyingly long!

great book, I'm glad it didn't focus on the other party's to much. I also enjoy the way the book is heading.
