In his world, he was the last remaining alchemist, one of the few survivors living amidst the ruins of a once-great civilization.

Refusing to give up on life, but seeing that nothing could save his home, he challenged himself to find a way out of such an inhospitable place.

After years of dedicated research, he devised a ritual to transport himself to another world. But the outcome was far from anticipated. Instead of mere displacement, he underwent a rebirth.

He ended up in a new body, in a new world, surrounded by new threats lurking around every corner. And they primarily manifested themselves in the form of other people. Aristocrats of the ancient empire who fight for supremacy, demons capable of healing the most terrible wounds, and Walkers who have the ability to teleport anywhere they wished.

But a true master of alchemy does not allow himself to be perturbed. Edgar's intelligence, skill, and alchemic knowledge are still with him, and the one who has once accomplished the impossible won't go down without a fight, regardless of the circumstances.

I really like the story. it's really well written. I have to get used to the whole European Russian style. picturesque vibe I guess. I'm in the middle of the second book of the series. the only thing I don't really get feel of is the magic. it feels more like science than actual magic. I mean there are elements of magic and magical situations. but the whole feel of another world fantasy type take you away from reality. I'm not getting it. it's cool but I think it would have landed more with me as just a regular novel with suspense. there's definitely intrigue revenge mystery. all of those I like. and there are times when I'm in the mood to read those types of books but I'm just not getting what I'm wanting out of the fantasy with this. I probably would have picked a different genre. just saying.

Excellent story, though I think they spent a little too much time on the villains perspective. I know it was all to set up for future books, but still. The main character story was excellent, and this is the first time I have ever seen a western alchemist properly represented in story. Alchemist out of Weston history was not just someone who worked with chemicals. Western alchemist were ones that made golems, magic mirrors and philosopher stones. They were the medieval equivalent to mad scientist or mad geniuses, if you like.

Excellent book

This story was a really good idea and the narrator does an excellent job with what he has, but there are some poor translation choices or perhaps editing choices that hurt the story overall. The story and the narrator's performance were good enough that I want to know what happens in book 2, but I wish they would edit the text a little better and have a native speaker check the translation.

Great story idea, but could be better

Book 1 sets up a lot for growth and the main character isn't OP, just has a good number of advantages that most people don't. He grows with knowledge and uses sympathetic alchemy like kingkiller chronicles but with much faster growth then that series.

Slow power growth with 2 different complimenting power systems

Lately I have come to dislike the term Isekaid as the stories just feel like the same book thrown into an AI wood chipper. I almost didn't get this book because of it .
However, this was fun. The MC has to learn along the way and feels human. Secrets must be kept and characters have consequences on the line.
5 star.

Surprised!
