I was four when my parents gave me my first pair of skates.
By six, I was hooked on hockey and couldn't get enough. At twelve, I had made a name for myself on the ice. And when I was fifteen, colleges were starting to take notice.
Life was great—until it wasn't. When I was seventeen, my best friend died in my arms. Nothing made sense after that. Drinking turned to smoking. And smoking turned to pills. But no matter how high I got, I couldn't erase that night. Or the guilt I felt.
Because that night had been my fault. My friend was dead… because of me.
As my best friend's baby sister, an actual angel sent from above, Haley Thompson is forbidden fruit, and I should stay away from her. Because everything I touch turns to crap. But like all things I'm not supposed to do, chasing her is another temptation I'm not strong enough to avoid. When I spiral down, hitting my lowest point, I know I can't take her with me. Innocent, sweet souls like her, they don't belong at the bottom.
The trouble is, she refuses to let go of me. Even if it will ruin her. Even if I will ruin her.

I was hooked from the beginning. This story is a true testament to unconditional love. They all rose above the odds and came together to get through. It was so moving. You have to read or listen. I can’t wait to hear other stories in this series because I know I’ll be on the edge of my seat for every story.
So beautiful!

Cade is a hockey player for Brooks university, a jokester and playboy. Sutton is the little sister to one of Cade’s teammates and one of our past favorites (Chosen Boy) Hunter Thompson, also a student at Brooks university, she’s reserve and kind and when her dorm room floods, she had no other options than to move into her big brothers hockey house, where Cade also lives.
Sutton and Cade have a bond right away, Sutton might be quiet but just from observing Cade she sees so much into who he really is. She see’s he is hurting but doesn’t learn how deep his pain is till it’s almost too late.
What I love most about this story is the way Sutton sees Cade, when things spiral she does something that ultimately changes the path of Cade’s life and what a beautiful transformation he makes even after pushing her away. I also love the realization Cade has with his life, knowing the changes he needs to make his better.
This story is full of pain, trauma, hard life choices, a surprise pregnancy, beautiful friendships with support, passion, love and of course all the spice you need.
I loved Cade and Sutton’s story and can’t wait to continue on this series to only see these relationships grow.
I was worried doing Chosen Boy and Lost Boy back to back with the same narrators, and had no reason to be, each character is so different and you really are able to separate the narration and the characters, it shows how great Hannah’s writing is and how well she wrote these characters and their lives.
TW: loss and substance abuse.
