This was a weird but still cutesy story. A marriage of convenience between absolute strangers? Normally, this trope uses friends or acquaintances or connects strangers through familial agreements or a publicly exposed one night stand that ends up being mutually advantageous.

But Tahj and Breema don't know anything about each other. NOTHING. Not even a moment of shared bodily fluid by which Tahj could have been inspired enough to say yeah, let me ask this very rude woman that I just met if she wants to be wife with monetary benefits for a year so I can obtain my birthright. He truly took one look af Breema and instantly became enthralled despite all her intentionally repelling behaviour and words.

Yes, Breema agreed to the arrangement because she was in a period of deep financial instability and she definitely should have asked for more money at the end of the contract, regardless of the unlimited spending she was permitted during the marriage. Hello, savings/emergency fund, obviously.

But once Breema stopped being obnoxious and actually became receptive to Tahj's attempts to get to know her, the book took on that sweet rhythm of attention, mutual infatuation, hot sex and secret indecision that this arrangement done felt like the best thing to happen and needs to be permanent.
