An audio edition of the famous Red Book text and essay.

The Red Book, published to wide acclaim in 2009, contains the nucleus of C. G. Jung's later works. It was here that he developed his principal theories of the archetypes, the collective unconscious, and the process of individuation that would transform psychotherapy from treatment of the sick into a means for the higher development of the personality.

As Sara Corbett wrote in the New York Times, The creation of one of modern history's true visionaries, The Red Book is a singular work, outside of categorization. As an inquiry into what it means to be human, it transcends the history of psychoanalysis and underscores Jung's place among revolutionary thinkers like Marx, Orwell and, of course, Freud.

The Red Book: A Reader's Edition features Sonu Shamdasani's introductory essay and the full translation of Jung's vital work in one audiobook. The Red Book is skillfully narrated by Mike Fraser. Produced and published by Echo Point Books & Media, an independent bookseller in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Having closely studied the Thoth tarot and other older occult systems and philosophies will help one make some inexplicable sense of all this...great narration

Tough Slogging, but Worth It

Great book! I’d give it 5 stars but the chapters are mislabeled, needs to be fixed.

Jung’s psychology is rich and colorful, narrator was fantastic.

Jung is describing visions/dreams but I was surprised how coherent, clear, and powerful the dream’s messages are, especially if you’re attentive & somewhat familiar with Jungian symbology.

You can get very similar messages in a **much** easier-to-understand format in James Hollis’ “Through the Dark Wood” (which is excellent!). The bottom line is: you MUST live your life (with all its experiences), and you will be regularly called/summoned/forced by “the Spirit of the Depths” toward something greater (maybe remembering or growing into your divinity). The message & sometimes the language is very similar to Rilke.

I found it helpful to replace “the Spirit of the Times” with: the material/mental world, or Taoism’s “the Ten Thousand Things,” or Hinduism’s gunas.

Make sure to check out Jung’s illustrations from this book online! A PDF of the images really should have been included as part of this audiobook.

Surprised how coherent & compelling it is!

Much of this book is biographical commentary about Carl Jung. The actual text of The Red Book doesn't begin until the 26th chapter.

Skip the first 4.5 hours.

This book is difficult you have to simultaneously decode symbolism and difficult concepts from that symbolism. The symbolism adds depth to the book that makes it one of those books with infinite meaning.

This book causes dreams
