The year is 1901, and the hustle and bustle of the holidays is descending on New York's Fifth Avenue.

For the first time in her privileged life, Adelaide Forsythe couldn’t be happier about the prospect of a quiet Christmas. That’s not to say her transition from Missto Mrs. has been without challenge. Though she doesn’t regret marrying for love instead of wealth, she feels woefully unprepared to run her own household.

Then, on the first Sunday of Advent, winter winds bring surprising change, first through a young orphan boy and then a seasoned housekeeper who seems too good to be true.

The boy, Jack, claims he isn’t an orphan at all and is desperate to reunite his family. While Adelaide and her husband work tirelessly to solve the riddle of Jack's story, Adelaide's new endeavors open her eyes to a world beyond her past experience—and all the possibility it holds. As Christmas approaches, small glimmers of wonder light the way toward the answers Adelaide seeks and the most miraculous gift of all.

Just a sweet and lovely story for the season. Suspenseful and redeeming story line. Great characters too.

A great reminder of what matters most. I did not want the story to end.

It had the true meaning of Christmas. I will have to read or listen to some of her other works.

wonderful story

I loved seeing the characters I had gotten to know and what life was like for them now that they are married. Great history, great tension, showing what it might’ve been like to begin their lives together coming from different wealth status and with all the new changes happening at the turn of the century. I loved the story of the orphan longing for his father; overall just wonderful and I really like this narrator!

Just wonderful

I loved everything about this book — another winner from Lynn Austin!

Newlyweds Adelaide and Howard Forsythe find themselves the unlikely foster parents for two young children, Jack and Polly.

While their father is away at sea, their mother dies suddenly leaving 8-year-old Jack and 3-year-old sister Polly (who is deaf) orphans. Jack runs away from the orphanage with the goal of finding his sister and their Papa.

Adelaide comes home one evening to find Jack, half frozen, hiding in the bushes.

While searching for Jack and Polly’s father, Adelaide and Howard experience the true meaning of Christmas.

Wonderful story with wonderful characters! I didn’t realize there was a book before Adelaide and Howard were married. The MOMENT I submit this review, I will immediately be in the Audible library looking for the first book, “All My Secrets.” I can’t wait to read it!

WONDERFUL, HEARTWARMING STORY!
