Look upon our beloved Mexico―the ancient singers gave her such lovely names:

Navel of the Moon

Foundation of Heaven

Sea-Ringed World

David Bowles stitches together the fragmented mythology of pre–Colombian Mexico into an exciting, unified narrative in the tradition of William Buck’s Ramayana, and Robert Fagles’ Iliad.

Feathered Serpent / Dark Heart of Sky presents the tales of Mexico’s ancients not as improbable fables but as flesh-and-blood narrative. Great writing, spectacular characters, and a surprising, uplifting ending pertinent to our times. Take that, Book of Revelation!’’—Gustavo Arrellano, author of Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America; columnist for the Los Angeles Times

It’s unfortunate that most of the stories have been lost. It’s unfortunate , Christianity came in. Did the Christian thing; passing through the continent like a cancer.

The first part of the book is the mythos, what survived . As the book continues the story is lost . The mythos start to have too many holes and the narrator filled them the best he could. The later half of the book is more of a historical retelling, not all too accurate.
