Publisher's summary
Cartea trateaza:
- Tensiunea dintre atasament si autenticitate exprimata prin deconectarea de sine;
- Amprenta traumei si a stresului cronic in societate;
- Modurile in care ideea de normalitate a culturii occidentale moderne submineaza bunastarea si dezvoltarea;
- Conexiunile dintre emotii si sistemul nervos si imunitar;
- Aspectele profunde ale compasiunii si calea spre reconectare.
Cu peste patru decenii de experienta clinica, Gabor Mate a ajuns sa recunoasca predominanta intelegere a „normalitatii” ca fiind una falsa, deoarece neglijeaza cu totul rolul pe care atat traumele si stresul, precum si presiunile vietii moderne, le exercita asupra corpului si mintii noastre in detrimentul starii de sanatate. Cu toata expertiza si sofisticarea tehnologica, medicina occidentala esueaza sa trateze persoana ca intreg, ignorand modul in care cultura toxica din zilele noastre streseaza organismul, incarca sistemul imunitar si submineaza echilibrul emotional.

Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Story
There is no bigger public health story now than the collapse in youth mental health. The numbers are terrifying and dominate our headlines. There has been much debate over how we got here, and what to do next, and bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt is at the white-hot center of that discourse. Haidt has spent his career speaking wisdom and truth into the most difficult landscapes—communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the perfect storm contributing to a public health emergency for Gen Z.

“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.
